Dear readers,

I want to have my eyes lasered so I can get rid of my reading glasses. Does anyone have experience having it done in Thailand? And what are the costs and what should I look out for to find a good clinic?

Regards,

Robert

In 2010 laser eye surgery in Bumrungrad. Very satisfied.

    robert,
I don't think you can laser both eyes for close range. If you do that, you can't see very well in my opinion.
You can laser one eye for near and the other for far away. Lasering an eye for near and far was not done a few years ago according to my ophthalmologist then. I don't know how technology has progressed with this. Be well informed by the ophthalmologist. Bangkok Hospital or Bangkok-Pattaya hospital have good laser doctors.

I have 3 family members who have had their eyes lasered by Dr. Somchai at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya. The first already 13 hairs ago. He has done supervision with my eyes so that I can see well both far and near. He has a top reputation. Three years ago, laser treatment cost something like 65.000 baht for 2 eyes. He speaks slow and clear English. Here's a link

With age, the eye muscles lose part of the ability to tighten the lens ball, or part of the depth of focus. Usually close = using reading glasses.
Lasering means that some scars are burned into the lens membrane, which changes the focal point of the lens of the eye.
That can be focused on "far away", so no more glasses for far away, but then at the expense of close vision, so... different reading glasses, or vice versa.
The entire spectrum of vision, from near to far as during the young years, only return in the wishes, but never in reality.
In 2012 at the Eye Hospital in Rotterdam. Someone came in at the "emergency", who had laser eye surgery in Turkey. So my doctor had to leave me alone immediately, "under quite a few curses at idiots who let this treatment ruin their eyes"

      Hi Harry

You talk about 8 years ago and technology is moving forward.
There are thousands and thousands of people who have done this.
So I do have faith that something can always go wrong.
Nothing is 100% certain in life.

      Kind regards, Robert

bumrungrad and ruthin are the best don't just watch the price it's your eyes

Dear Jos, why are they the best, because I have also heard other stories about the Bumrungrad hospital.

      Jan Beute.

What does something like that cost?

My advice: never laser! Many have had their lives ruined by this unnecessary treatment. The internet is full of them.
As an MBO optometrist, I have seen many in my practice with serious vision complaints that could only be partially solved with large (expensive) scleral lenses. Many continued to experience dry eyes and halos in the dark.
Go to an experienced contact lens specialist and ask about the possibilities of multifocal contact lenses.

I think it's pretty negative advice. How many people have had their eyes lasered?
Of course you shouldn't go lasering for the cheap tourists. Be well informed in advance. and don't just go for the price. 1 years ago at Dr. Chate at the Bumrungrad Bangkok. Never regretted for a moment. It was already 60.000 baht at the time. He then said that I would need reading glasses. It was 1 out of 2 then. Maybe it has changed now, 10 years later

    Hi Nico

    Thanks for your comment.
I looked at your link and I had also received a message from Bangkok hospital in Phuket.

    The cost of procedure
    1. Pre-op consultation + Eye exam: 5,000-6,000THB
    2. Surgery cost: Between 85,000 – 130,000 THB for one eye depending on your eye condition which will be determined during consultation with our specialist.
Length of stay: 2 weeks in Phuket.

The objective of Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) is to improve your vision and minimize the need of eye glasses. We offer this procedure since 2009 with more than a thousand successful results. You can view our happy patients' video here.
***The procedure is recommended for people whose age above 50 years old and do not have any laser vision correction (egLASIK ) before ***

That is a lot more expensive and they have less experience than Pataya.

But did your relatives also only have problems with reading.
And what is their experience with this treatment?

    Kind regards, Rob

      robert,

In my opinion, a Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) is cataract surgery. Your cloudy lens is lasered out of the lens bag and an artificial lens is placed in it.

And what Janbeute is talking about below, I think, is also a cataract operation followed by a secondary cataract treatment. Some time after the cataract operation, the lens bag has become cloudy and the lens bag has been lasered off as a treatment.

I also had both treatments, but in the Netherlands.

I had my right eye lasered 2 months ago after undergoing catarac surgery 4 years earlier, so with a new lens on this right eye.
The lazing takes less than 5 minutes and costs around 3000 bath even after the consultation hour.
Did the same in lamphun goverment hospital.
Nice to tell you that my left eye also underwent a catarac operation with a new lens 10 days ago in the same hospital.
Lens replacement surgery takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
Everything including two overnight stays was the hospital's requirement in a reasonable and clean single room with air conditioning and the operation costs, etc., around 22000 baht.
Same young female friendly ophthalmologist as 4 years ago, and I can now see perfectly again.
If you go to private hospitals, the price will certainly rise considerably.
    But that's what you want.

    Jan Beute.

    Dear Robert.
In 2004 I was instructed by Dr. Had SOMCHAI lasered at the Bangkok Pattaya hospital.
Now I've got cataracts, and I have a huge problem because of the laser.
Am currently in the Netherlands in Maasricht with Professor Dr. Nuijs being treated for new lenses to be placed in my eyes. I pointed out in advance that I was read in 2004, then I was pointed out that due to lasering they cannot guarantee that it will be 100% correct. They are starting to put a new TRIFOCAL lens in my right eye.
Not good, very unclear for distance, short distance and middle distance are perfect.
So a second operation on the same right eye, not yet good for distance. Now I was informed that it can be solved with glasses of 0,75, but I just want to get rid of those rotten glasses. But that is not possible, I should not have lasered, I was told. By going into it further, it eventually came to the conclusion that after a laser treatment, correct measurements can no longer be made for the lens implants.
At the moment I don't know what to do anymore, with my left eye I see well for far away and with my right eye good for close up.
If I now also have a new lens placed in my left eye, which I already know will not work out 100%, I will need glasses for the rest of my life, but I have no choice because I have cataracts.
SO MY ADVICE IS GET TRIFOCAL LENSES IN PLACE IMMEDIATELY AND NEVER LASER!!!!!!!!!!!! Because sooner or later you will get cataracts on your eyes. And then you have a problem.
Several friends and acquaintances of mine have these lenses and are 100% satisfied but have never been lasered.

Please don't do it, forewarned counts for two.

Yet also someone who is honest enough to report that things can also go wrong.

Above (in another post) one immediately replies that such reactions are quite negative. These are not negative reactions, but reactions based on what can really go wrong after laser eye surgery. Many people do not realize that laser treatment is IRREVERSIBLE.

My personal opinion is also to, if you actually hate glasses to opt for lenses. You only have 1 pair of eyes, once they are messed up due to a failed operation you have a huge problem for the rest of your life. Just give me glasses – no risks for me (no matter how good the laser treatment may be these days).

At the end of 2013 I had a cataract “surgery” on two eyes in Mission Hospital. A week after another. I used to wear glasses. The “surgery” involved nothing, took maybe 53.000 minutes per eye. I had absolutely no pain during and after the operation and within the hour I was able to pay about 7 Baht (per eye). I went home with a plastic cap over the eye which was useless within a day. I have not had glasses for XNUMX years now to see far and only use reading glasses!

  15. It is says up

Lasered in 2002 in Bumrungrad/Bangkok from minus 8,5 to 0. No need for reading glasses either.
Cataracts due to aging. Very bad visibility.
In 2018 cataract surgery in pattaya 55.000 per eye in private clinic.
Visibility in the distance very good. Need reading glasses.
