Home » Reader question » Reader question: Dutch driving license renewal and health declaration
Dear readers,
I live in Thailand and am 75 plus. Need to renew my Dutch driver's license. Have the necessary papers. Only, how do I get a health certificate that is valid for the CBR?
Can someone help me?
Regards,
Burt
Editors: Do you have a question for the readers of Thailandblog? Use it contact form..
@burt,
I submitted a health certificate from a Thai doctor 15 years ago.
I don't know if they still accept this, but I would contact the CBR.
I recently did this myself. I am not 75, but everything went by mail via my parents' address in Holland. But for 75 + you can fill in your health declaration via DGID. But it can also be done by mail that was recently done for my father. What I only wonder can you go to a medical examiner in Thailand. What I can still give you is when you make your application. Then your travel license is still valid for at least 1 year. Good luck
Hello Burt. If you need a Dutch health certificate to renew your driving licence, you can download this certificate for a fee from the CBR website. (cbr.nl ) Payment can be made via iDEAL.
Succes
That self-declaration is not the problem, it is about the medical examination.
another angle is the following.
I assume you also have a Thai driver's license. After all, that is very easy to get if you have a Dutch driving license.
Why do you want to renew your Dutch driving license if you mainly live in Thailand. Make sure your Thai driver's license does not expire. If you stay in the Netherlands you can drive on a Thai driving license for a limited time.
You can also arrange car rental with a Thai driver's license. The car rental companies have a list of the driver's licenses they can accept when renting a car. I have experience with this because I did not have my Dutch driving license with me a few times (!) when I rented a car in Europe.
Unfortunately your data is not complete. You indicate that you live in Thailand. It is important whether you are still registered in the Netherlands. If so, you can log in with the BSN number using a digital code at; my CBR.
This agency has a file on you. There you can fill in the health declaration digitally, pay and then you just have to wait and see. Because you are 75 years old, a CBR expert will always refer you to a medical examiner. You can read that in your file.
That may be your doctor. But do you still have a Dutch general practitioner? Incidentally, doctors sometimes refuse driver's license tests because they want to remain impartial. You must then look for another doctor. The CBR can help you with this.
You can download all forms from your file. The medical examiner can then send these digitally to the CBR, but you can also send them by post.
If you do not have an underlying condition, such as heart disease, diabetes, etc., you will receive (via your file) in a Fitness to drive Medical message, the decision: You are fit to drive the following vehicles………This decision is valid for 1 year. This data is automatically sent to the municipality. So you have 1 year to renew your driving license at the municipality.
It will be a different matter if you do have underlying suffering, or your application concerns a large driver's license for such as a truck, camper, etc. Then you will be referred to a specialist. You can contract it yourself. That is sometimes not easy in this day and age. Many doctors refuse driving license tests because of corona. The CBR can also help you with that. If the CBR expert approves the report as satisfactory, you will still receive the decision: you are suitable for driving the following vehicles…etc. Because you are older than 75, the new driving license is then valid for 5 years, but can be shorter if the specialist considers it necessary.
If there are any doubts, the CBR expert can refer you to a specialist again. You then have no choice. The expert is appointed by the CBR. Then it can all take a long time. In the meantime, the driver's license may lose its validity. But don't worry, an arrangement has been made. Under certain conditions, you may still continue to drive. By the way, for the sake of clarity, a driver's license can lose its validity but not expire. You are normally not allowed to drive with an invalid driver's license.
If you have been deregistered in the Netherlands, you can request the health certificate from the municipality for a fee and send it to the CBR.
The CBR customer service can undoubtedly provide you with information on how to proceed.
Finally, all inspections are at your own expense.
Good luck with your driver's license renewal.
Peter.

Everything went well and shipped.
Reply to response from Cornelis. Idd Cornelis downloading, completing and paying is not the problem. Who oh who issues the health certificate/certificate accepted by the CBR here in Thailand. Gr. Burt.
Editors, just a response to a message from John. John, that angle is an excellent option. If I can't get a CBR-accepted inspection report here in Thailand, I'll take your advice. Thanks for this tip. Gr. Burt
