Dear readers,

My wife normally flies with KLM from Bangkok to Amsterdam at the end of May 2021. We live in Belgium, which means that I have to pick up my wife at Schiphol with my own car. We have almost always done this in the past. Now with the corona / covid measures, however, I don't know what or why?

There is talk of (non) essential travel, quarantine on arrival in the Netherlands, there is the Passenger Locator Form, the corona tests and so on. My wife is in need of help due to a cerebral thrombosis, can neither read nor write, is confused and above all afraid and is therefore NOT able to travel independently to Belgium. I can hardly leave my wife at the airport until the pandemic is over or government measures are more favorable. I have already written around here in Belgium and even contacted the Dutch government, all without success so far.

My question to your readers, how can I pick up my wife at Schiphol from Belgium in the right way with my own car (my son also drives along), what papers, etc. should I have with me and be able to present in order to bring this all to a good end? to take?

Regards,

Frank

    Dear Frank,
Picked up my wife recently as well
Schiphol.parked at short-term parking (P1) and then walked towards arrival. Was then arrested, but after a short explanation that my wife was in need of help, I was let through without further ado.
Well, if you can get a letter from your doctor that your wife is disabled due to unnecessary travel, etc.

Dear Leo, I have now received an answer from Schiphol itself that I have to explain my explanation to the police who do the security there. They're going to let me through anyway, they say. However, it concerns me that I leave in Belgium and enter the Netherlands, which according to the latest rules means that I have to be quarantined for 5 days in the context of (non) essential travel) or am I wrong? I will definitely have to have a Passenger Locator Form with me, otherwise I have to guess.

    Dear Frank.

I know it is not actually an answer to your question, but is it not an option to have your wife fly from Schiphol to Zaventem, then when you return home you only have to deal with the rules in Belgium and not with the Dutch rules? I live in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and always fly from Brussels via Schiphol with KLM to Bangkok and back. I just don't know what the current situation is with flights from Schiphol to Brussels, because due to Corona it has been a year since I made this trip - April 2020. Shouldn't it be possible to arrange through KLM that there is assistance for your wife at Schiphol?
    Goodluck!!

PS I then looked via Google at “Corona rules Belgium” and was able to find all the information there about what was and was not possible.

Thank you for your response Wim, but a flight from Amsterdam to Brussels is not an option for my wife. If I also go on a trip myself, KLM Brussels-Amsterdam-Bangkok is also very easy for me, I have already done this several times. In fact, the last time this option was even slightly cheaper than AMS-BKK and back, the other times I had to pay an extra 30 euros per person, you really shouldn't leave it at that.

    Dear Frank.
In the current covid situation, I see no problem at all to drive from Belgium to Schiphol together with your son and pick up your wife there.
There is currently no travel ban, certainly not for necessary movements. Make sure you have printed the flight details, which is proof of the necessity of your move.
The covid situation should change a lot by the end of May to ban essential travel.
Naturally, the applicable income conditions in the Netherlands must be followed by your wife upon arrival.
    So don't worry too much.

Dear Unkelwin, this is good news for once.
I already have the flight details in my possession and my wife can be helped in Bangkok when requesting the Fit-To-Fly and PLF documents and the necessary corona / covid test.
I keep my fingers crossed and keep your advice not to worry too much in mind. Thank you. 🙂

Until now, during the covid pandemic, it has always been the case that Belgians can come to the Netherlands, but the Dutch cannot come to Belgium.
Schiphol is no problem at all given the medical background.
So if a problem could arise, it would be in Belgium.

    Appie
