Dear readers,

I divorced a Thai woman in 2006. We have a 26-year-old son, born in Belgium, who lives with me in Belgium. My ex-wife (mother) lives back in Thailand since the divorce. For several weeks she has been in the Bangkok hospital in Hua Hin with serious illness, liver cancer. So my son would love to visit her again. He has Belgian and Thai nationality.

Does anyone know if he would get a visa? Or can he just go there with the Thai identity card?

Regards,

Ronny

Dear Ronny, please call the Thai embassy in Brussels. There, people are selected who would like to go to Thailand for urgent reasons. There are only a limited number of flights.

I assume that you have obtained the nasty information first hand and that this is correct and then you and your son are fully aware of the disease and prognosis and so on. With this information and certainly if speed is required for such a visit, if the unprecedented contact or visit the Thai embassy, because there one can make decisions and clarify what is and what is not possible. I do read reports that Thai people return to Thailand, but that often concerns the group that also lives here. They must meet the corona requirements for travel and entry and quarantine if applicable. But again the Thai embassy that is the negotiating party.

Jack, thanks for the reply. Yes the information is 100% correct. my son normally has 2-3 chats with her every week. And she hadn't been feeling well for a while. Then they took her to the Bangkok hospital of Hua Hin. There they did an MRI and saw what was there. Then they had to put her in a coma. And shortly she is transferred to the Hua Hin hospital. The 2 hospitals often work together. On Tuesday I will call the Thai embassy in Brussels for further information.

If your son has Thai nationality, does he also have a Thai passport? If so, he can just enter Thailand (if I have been informed)

    • Ronny says up

Kees, just the Thai ID. card. So he will have to go with visa. We already know more on Tuesday, we were allowed to call the Thai embassy to make an appointment.

Dear Ronny, your son is 26 years old, is Thai and in possession of a Thai ID. You are going to make an appointment with the Thai embassy. Then don't forget to apply for a Thai passport. This allows him to enter and leave Thailand without a visa. With his Belgian passport out and in Belgium. Of course, extra entry and exit conditions now apply because of corona, but you will hear that from the embassy.

Small question, is he exempt from Thai military service, otherwise maybe problems entering Thailand, good luck ...

    • Joseph says up

Yes that's right. A very good comment. Ronny, also discuss that possible call-up for Thai military service at the embassy to avoid unpleasant situations when handing out from Thailand again.

    • Ronny says up

Pairoux Leon, thanks for the reply. Yes my son is exempt from the army in Thailand.
