Home » Reader question » Reader question: Is there an association for Thai in the Netherlands?
Dear readers,
Soon my Thai girlfriend will come to the Netherlands for the first time on holiday. I would like to support her as much as possible and make it a good experience. Think of a visit to the 'Wat' in Landsmeer and a chat with Thai people in a Thai restaurant. Especially I am looking for an 'association for Thai' in the Netherlands.
I live in Utrecht. Who has suggestions?
Thank you!
Regards,
Rob
Maybe you can get acquainted with the Sajaam Foundation, which does many useful things for Thai people in the Netherlands. For further information you can visit their site http://www.stichtingsajaam.nl. Everything is in Thai language.
http://buddharama-waalwijk.nl/
I don't know if there is a special Thai association, but quite a lot of Thai people live in and around Utrecht, my girlfriend is coming to the Netherlands for good on May 13th.
I have a couple of friends living in my street, she is Thai, who own a Thai food delivery restaurant, so if you want more info just email me, I live in Houten.
Regards Rob
Moderator: Has nothing to do with the reader question.
I am not aware of any association. Well events of Thai in the Netherlands. See: https://www.thailandgek.com/f16-thaise-evenementen-nederland See also: http://www.thainl.nl/forum/thaise-evenementen-nederland
There is a Thai temple in Waalwijk. Worth to visit.
You have to let her search for herself in Thai. So in Thai.
This is a FB page 'Thai in the Netherlands':

Thai Dutch Kitchen is shielded. I used to check in on her account, and this was one of the more useful groups. The Thai-Netherlands group is public.
Be careful not to end up in a cocoon. Whether they are Dutch people in Thailand or Thai people in the Netherlands, if you primarily deal with compatriots, it will not benefit your language development and integration. But as a starting point and helpline, certainly useful. In everyday life you can better deal with a varied group of people. My love told me that they limited her circle of friends here to a handful of Thai people and it was wiser to have a wider circle of friends and acquaintances of Dutch people and people from all over the world.
yes rob in waalwijk is a thai temple, on sundays there is often something to do and there are many thai people, call when it is busy, there are many thai people and Dutch people, i live in waalwijk myself and have the same experience as you , only you are at the beginning , and I am at the end of the adventure
greetings good luck
give them my regards in isaan
Of course it is super important that you show your girlfriend the Dutch culture and the beautiful places in the country. It is less important to introduce her directly to all kinds of Thai people and associations.
In fact ::These are often the right places to immediately get into trouble with your new life together in the Netherlands.
The above temples are often the designated places for the Thai to show each other how lucky they are with their Dutch boyfriend, so a lot of gold and money must be shown to show how much money the boyfriend has. The Thai ladies sometimes walk there like a Christmas tree so full of jewelry, it is often a pity that 2 hands only have 10 fingers because they like to be able to show 15 gold rings. The amounts that are mentioned that they receive monthly from the hubby are also not in the air. Of course is it nice if your girlfriend gets to know some nice Thai girls with whom she can get along well and normally . ..Be wise and let your girlfriend meet Dutch people and you will have a wonderful time.
Of course there will be millionaires who think differently about this, but this is my personal experience after living with my Thai (now wife) in the Netherlands for more than 10 years.
If you want them to remain dependent on you, you should especially encourage them to build up many Thai contacts. It is not wrong to also build Thai friendships in NL, but let her also become a member of a NL sports club or other association and vis an ROC she can build a third kind of network. This left my wife with a permanent job at the Bijenkorf in a period when hardly any employer converted a contract into permanent employment. Forget Civic Integration via NT 2, but go to an ROC as soon as possible after a short language course and just finish with MBO 1. After a year, move on to MBO 2, which is a basic qualification. This is also valid to apply for NL nationality, but it is worth much more to employers than that stupid integration paper. Many people who make a real language test of the IICE after integration do not even reach A1 level, while it should be equal to A2 level. An expensive paid paper that is worth as much to an employer as the toilet paper of a private label.
Dear Rob,
Start (on the site) with; Agenda Thai events in the Netherlands. (loekkorff.eu)
Be sure that you can use this as a starting point for filling in the holiday.
Always willing to inform you further.
Yours faithfully,
Gerard.
If you are in Landsmeer, then drive on to Purmerend.
Behind the Koemarkt you have a great Thai restaurant (one of the best in the Netherlands.
Owner is a Thai lady..
Dear Rob.
DE what in landsmeer has moved to Purmerend. You can find the location on the website of the Wat. Good parking and open 7 days a week. Songkaran was also organized by the Temple on April 21 at a party center on Sloterdijk, Amsterdam. If your girlfriend is there it is definitely worth going there.
Dear Rob, I can only advise you to associate as little as possible with your wife's compatriots.
Especially in the beginning it is important that she is familiarized with how we and you live here.
Of course you don't have to completely shut yourself off from the Thai residents of the Netherlands, but keep in mind that the larger the group your wife comes into contact with, the more distress there is, as said above, the conversations are often about how much money they getting from hubby how much gold can be worn on the body and gossiping about each other is also a frequent pastime.
Of course it's nice for her if she has some good and I say good girlfriends of Thai descent in the future but watch out before you know it she's in the gambling circuit and she's out every weekend with the so-called girlfriends and you can show up as a driver or sitting alone on the couch more than together .
What a moralizing. Ridiculous The only question was how Rob's Thai girlfriend can get in touch with her compatriots in the Netherlands. And then all advice that she shouldn't visit her compatriots too much and should deal more with real Dutch people, etc. Couldn't you leave that to the couple themselves? Surely they should know that themselves? And discuss with each other?
What would you think if Thai people would call on your Thai girlfriend (wife) to keep her Dutch husband far away from compatriots and to only seek contact with Thais in Thailand and to ignore those expats? Seems like a good idea to me by the way 🙂
