Home » Reader question » Reader question: How often do you have things injected against termites?
Dear readers,
How many times a year should pest control show up to spray against termites and other scum? We just got a new kitchen and I don't want it to be eaten by uninvited guests.
Regards,
Benny
Here it is done monthly. It seems sufficient to me because I don't see anything being eaten.
They come to me to spray every 3 months, I have lived here for twenty years, I have a teak roof and I have never had any problems……..
Benny,
I don't know what and how often they spray, but one thing is certain, it is poison and certainly not healthy.
Bad for all life and bad for the environment.
And not all ants are termites, I've never seen them here and for the other creeps there are less disastrous solutions, such as vinegar or plain water.
Do not use (home) remedies such as chlorine, vinegar or salt to combat an infestation. Although they are often tipped, the agents have not been tested as a pesticide. If used incorrectly, they can damage nature and be dangerous to health Tooske !!! Then spray on a water basis and not with pure Poison.
I would just trust the judgment of the pest control company. They can best estimate what your home needs. And if you're afraid of being ripped off on the price, get two or three quotes from other companies. Seems simple to me.
In our condominium complex also once a month.
Benny,
I had a new kitchen installed in our house in Chiang Mai a year and a half ago, the old, also Western kitchen was in need of replacement after 20 years and 2 cupboards were eaten up despite regular spraying. The new one has lasted 18 months and is now 70 percent. destroyed despite spraying every month and a promise from the seller of Baan+Beyond/Thaiwatsadu that the cabinets would be termite resistant.
As it turns out, only the fronts and shelves are made of rubberwood, which they don't like, but the rest is made of chipboard that even IKEA doesn't dare to use and they really like that, you can hear them gnawing. They have never heard of good MDF. So what is wisdom, spraying is dubious, unhealthy and hardly helps unless you can pull out a guarantee certificate from the kitchen supplier that the kitchen is really termite-proof (there seem to be) but the problem is that the sellers at Global, Homepro and Baan+Beyond work on commission so promise everything, that applies to everything that is for sale there. Now the manufacturer Kitzcho is trying to throw it at the pest control man who of course cannot compete with the power and help of the big boys from the police. I am THB 400.000 lighter and will have to switch to plastic. Maybe better to have Grabfood delivered and convert the kitchen into a workshop.
We can't make it more fun.
Regards, Dick
Also have a kitchen from Kitzcho completely rubber wood. No problem for 14 years. Has not cost 400.000 THB. You do have a very large kitchen.
Dear Carpenter,
apparently Kitzcho has started to save because the side walls are now really made of cheapest chipboard and the back plate of pressed cardboard with a layer of plastic.
Thanks for the info that I can use in my fight with Kitzcho and associates.
And yes it is a large kitchen of my own design (50 years ago I had one of the 1st kitchen stores when only Bruynzeel was still on the market)
Regards,
Thick
I've had an aluminum kitchen for 14 years, they bite their teeth there 55555
I had all the furniture custom made in old teak. Is quite affordable, beautiful and above all termite free.
In Pattaya there is a company “Pest Control Pattaya” or something like that. That company belongs to a Dutchman named “Frank”.
I understand from him that when you want to fight termites, you are not there with spraying alone. The nests must be destroyed. The termites do this themselves by bringing powder with them when they return home. Spraying is for maintenance and prevention. Some of the houses have a pipe system in the foundation. Once a year or more years (I don't know) a few hundred liters of water must be sprayed with Pesticide through this system. That is also for prevention. If savings have been made during construction and the system has been omitted, then after a controlled infestation, the floors must be drilled or injected around the house. Frank told me that all Thai people know not to play pranks on those termites. When you have them you are usually too late and the damage is considerably higher than a treatment. I followed the Thai.
