Reader question: What is the name of the vignette car / moped for the inspection and road tax in Thai?
Dear readers,
Does anyone know what the annual car/moped vignette for the inspection and road tax is called in Thai? May be written in Thai. Kadaat tongue it is not.
Regards,
Jan
Editors: Do you have a question for the readers of Thailandblog? Use it contact form..
That sticker/vignette is called แผ่นป้ายทะเบียนภาษีรถ (Phè pâay thá-biejen phaa-sǐe rot). Literally: “sheet of label registration tax vehicle”. Which tax? รถยนต์ (phaa-sǐe rot-yon): motor vehicle tax.
See also this Thai blog about which documents to arrange: https://blog.fufu2u.com/monograph/document-for-renew-motor-tax/
Above is the official description, the comments -completely correct- below is what it is called colloquially: Poh-Roh-Boh (พ.ร.บ. ; PRB. That is an abbreviation for phrá-râa-chá ban-yàt (พระราชบัญญัติ). Literally: Royal + legislation (Royal Act, Legal Degree).
My wife says “porabor” but don't ask me anything else!!!
That's called:
ภาษี phaa sii (rising tone)
Por Ror Bor
Pauraubau
The proof in question is called พ.ร.บ. (phonetic pho. roh. boh)
You are probably talking about the Porobo. With the well-known logo of which the inspection stations can be found on many roads.
The sticker you receive after the MOT to stick on your vehicle is a tax sticker. In Thai this is สติ๊กเกอร์ภาษีรถยนต์ (saticker phasi rot yon) if I have it right.
Porobo.
I think you พ.ร.บ. (ประกํน ภัยรถยนต์). This is the sticker you need to put on your car window.
Greetings Ab.
I have always understood that the Pho Roh Boh is proof that the car has been taken out with an insurance company for the legally required minimum insurance (WA insurance).
This form is the only document with a silver border, with a cut-off section at the bottom that must be submitted together with a car inspection certificate, the blue or green car/moped booklet, plus an amount in cash. Cars and mopeds under 5 years old do not need to be inspected.
At the Ministry of Land Transport, after handing over the Blue or Green booklet, inspection certificate, document Poh Roh Boh with silver border and the required amount in cash, a new blue-red road tax sticker is issued.
Many people will have "First Class" insurance. You will see that the Poh Roh Boh document always comes separately from the “First Class” policy and is also charged separately.
