Reader question: Renting a studio in Bangkok
Dear readers,
For the first time in my many decades of visiting Thailand, I don't want to stay in a hotel for my next stay in Bangkok, but I want to rent a studio.
I am looking for a studio for 10 nights on Sukhumvit road between BTS Nana and Asok, or in the sois 3 to 15, but not too far in the sois. Anyone have a good address please?
I also wonder whether the (rental) deposit is handled correctly, will it be refunded quickly and immediately after the rental? Can you do such a rental for only 10 nights, and arrange it on arrival?
All additional information about renting a studio in Bangkok (sharp edges, pitfalls, pros and cons) is welcome.
Thank you very much.
Kind regards,
Pat
You might be lucky with AirBnB.
Ordinary rental seems difficult to me for only 10 days.
In soi 8 you have great hotels for only 1000 baht per night
walking distance from Nanai station.
regards,
YES
If I were you I'd be careful about renting for 10 days. If there is no hotel permit, this is illegal. At least a stay of 3 weeks or more is necessary to rent a condo or room or house without any problems. And think of and around the tm30 message.
Ordinary rentals shorter than a month are not permitted according to hotel law.
On the bright side, many condos are illegally rented out (if that's what you're looking for). Officially you need a letter of residence and you only get that if you stay there for 30 days or longer. There have been some raids by the police lately, so it's certainly not just theoretical.
It is better (and more logical) to rent an apartment in a hotel in the aforementioned area and sois. They are available in abundance and in every price range. But maybe that's what you meant. Hotels will return your deposit when you check out.
AirBnB is a gray area. My estimation is that many landlords on AirBnB do not have a permit to rent out a room and therefore do not report you to Immigration (officially you must also .., especially now in the era in which TM30 is often discussed)
I would just look at Fraser suites, soi11 is good Price Vergoldung and zerr nice condo/suites
I agree with TAK.
Very often you have to provide your own sheets, pillowcases and towels during your stay.
Shorter than a month is possible, I once arranged it myself for a friend in Soi Onnut 10, for 650 baht per night + 1 night extra for a deposit, which was neatly refunded upon departure.
That was about 5 nights and was only a bedroom with shower and toilet.
I also know other stories, for example that the responsible person could not be found on departure and the people concerned were forced to leave without a deposit. (That time it was more than one night extra to deposit).
The Atlanta hotel is located on Soi Sukhumvit 2, which is where I stayed when I first came to Thailand in 2014. Was also 650 baht per night.
Only there is a large sign at the entrance with the text: “sex-tourists not welcome”.
You decide for yourself, of course, but I would just take a cheap hotel for 10 nights, just like TAK also says. And otherwise search for apartment 10 days. Good luck ig
Dear Pat, I advise you to look at booking.com apartment hotel Bangkok. We have had a good experience at Pantip Suites 68 ถนน สาทรใต้ ซอย 1 Khwaeng Thung Maha Mek, Khet Sathon, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10120 Telf. 02 285 0222
Very central with a good restaurant, a lovely garden & swimming pool.
Regards,
Peter
