Reader question: Traveling around the Isaan with a private driver
Dear readers,
We (2 people) would travel through the Isaan for 14 days, departing from Bangkok. We would like to do this with a private driver, so that we can organize our trip completely independently. How can we best arrange this?
Regards,
Stephan
There are several options for this.
Arrange local drivers who do not speak English through car rental companies or travel agencies.
Or Dutch people who, like me, live here and enjoy doing it.
I am quite willing to do this for a reasonable fee. Have been living here in Isaan in Thailand for 11 years. If you are interested, my email is [email protected]
Why not travel from the airport to Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima) by public transport. Rent a car there and discover the Esaan yourself with Google maps. Once in the Esaan, the traffic is fairly quiet and driving yourself is easy. You can do so for a short period with a Dutch driving licence. Via booking.com or Agoda it is very easy to book hotels at reasonable prices.
Lots of fun.
A Dutch driver's license is not sufficient, an International driver's license, which can be collected in the Netherlands at the ANWB, is required. Stephan, Greenwood travel in Bangkok provides private tours. Gets good reviews. You can obtain further information via the Dutch telephone number 070-2500062, insofar as this has not changed. Have a nice holiday in advance.
Legally, the Dutch driver's license is sufficient. Nevertheless, the police sometimes ask for an IDP (International Driving Permit).
I would read this once before you give wrong information. The rule is that you need an international driving license outside the European Union.
In Belgium you can get the International driving license at the town hall, show nx, just pay ... valid for 3 years.
I am also willing to do this for a reasonable payment, I have also been living in Thailand for years and have been living in Isaan since 21/2 years.
If you are interested, my email is [email protected]
I have lived in the Isaan for 10 years and own a 2 year old 7 seater Isuzu MUX suv.
For 1395 euro ALL IN I am your driver/guide. [email protected]
Please contact Robert Merks of “Resotel Baan Sanook”. He is located in the north east of Isaan and I only read positive reactions from his guests. Although I live fairly close by, I only met Robert once, but even then he left a good impression on me. Through facebook I “know” him a little better…
Hi, I want to try to put you in touch with Kan.
She has a good car, she looks good and speaks good English.
Moreover, I know that she likes to tour Thailand with foreign tourists.
to me she is NOT a cheater and not too expensive.
But always pay attention………+66 86 3824346.
Gr John
She will pick you up at Bangkok airport.
Hello.
An acquaintance of mine, a 48-year-old woman with a driving license, is a good driver.
She is very interested, lives in Isaan and is reliable.
Knows his way around Isaan, speaks good English.
And it's not expensive.

Contact Greenwood Travel in Bangkok. Dutch management and living in Thailand.
Koos, Alberto, Jos, Hans and others who would like to do this,
Be aware that it is forbidden for foreigners to work (as a volunteer) as a driver and/or guide. You will therefore normally not receive a work permit for this.

Dear Theo B
Thanks for your concern, but don't you ever drive with farangs in your car?
Have you ever been stopped by the police? And then asked the police for your work permit.
I regularly have family over, which I then drive all over Thailand.
I have been to Chang Rai and Krabi, but no police officer has ever asked about the relationship with my passengers.
Hans
Please contact louis Aarts van Tour-isaan. Experienced a top tour through the Isaan.
