Dear readers,

In previous posts I have already told you that our son, who is now 16 years old, wants to join the Thai navy. The plan is that he will first go to the Daonairoi school and then to the Naval Academy.

The Daonairoi school is therefore a kind of pre-education, see dnr.ac.th and I would like to know if there are blog readers who know the school or even have experience with it?

The school is located in Songkhla, but now also in several other cities, such as Phuket and Trang. Reportedly, there is now also a branch in Bangkok.

Regards,

Gringo

Below is a nice introductory video of this school:

I don't know the Dao Nai Roi (ดาวนายร้อย) school, but the website gives further explanation. It is a secondary school that focuses on military follow-up. After the 3rd class, you can take further training to become a policeman or soldier and after the 6th class take the exam for non-commissioned officer or pursue academic studies. There are schools in the southern provinces of Songkhla, Phuket, Krabi, Nakorn Si-thammarat and Surat Thani.

The Facebook page has a hundred thumbs up per message, compared to only a handful of reactions. So it's more listening than talking there.
A 16-year-old Thai son who knows what he wants, and also something that will require some effort. That in itself is a reason to be happy.
In addition, it is often difficult to talk people out of these kinds of wishes.
If you don't hear very negative things, then I would take a chance.

Is it your own son? I mean, is he Thai-Dutch, so Luk Krueng? If so, he can never be promoted to Petty Officer or Officer. Always retains a low soldier rank. Think about that and tell him that.

My son, 17 years old, is a real Luk Krueng. Legally speaking they can get any position but in practice it is as theoS says.
My son has had enough of Thailand. He finds the Thais abnormally nationalistic. He always has to 'prove' that he is also a Thai and people still look skeptical, he says.
