Reader question: Drilling for groundwater

Dear readers,

I am building in Petchabun (Bueng Sam pang). I have city water, but I would also like to have groundwater. According to the locals, it is difficult to find at that location or you have to go deep.

Of the 6 Thai I found in the area: either they don't finish, or they say too deep and don't have the machines for that. One has started but has broken his machine and has not been seen since, or they have too much work, the same as no desire.

Need groundwater for ground maintenance (4.5 rai).

Have an acquaintance in Phuket and with him they have been more than 100 m deep. So it must be possible.

All information welcome and thanks in advance'

Regards,

Jaume (BE)

Hello, I regularly drill wells, always around 30 m deep, I live 20 km from Bueng sam pan. Deeper I have not yet seen that they drill here think 40 m deep max their drills go. If you would like information, just let me know.

In my opinion, the most important layman's observation to estimate whether you are not going to find ridiculously deep enough water: Is there a basin in your country or are you sitting on a ridge? Or long “flat” slope down? Due to stories from neighbors I don't think you are, er, say, in a kind of low polder land with groundwater just below it. So local topography very relevant: 'n come in your country the best! Where perhaps in the wettest season some water remains in the completely soaked mud?

My wife owned a “little water shop” in Chiang Rai and I still remember drilling pipes. I just asked her, she knows exactly how it should be done technically and can therefore give advice. She herself has successfully drilled up to 110 meters deep. She can advise in English, but even better in Thai and she really knows everything. Contact via Thailandblog should be possible.
    To be.

My wife and her mother have a business in drinking water, 19.4 liter bottles, 1,5 liter, 1 liter and 05,5 liter bottles and those drinking cups.

OWN dug a well here at 30 meters deep from current street level. Originally started 3 meters below street level in an existing 4 meter pit.

How. Take a Steel pipe (you need 20 for 4 meters, 6 meters long), from 1,3/4 to 2 inches (inch). Make sure there is screw thread on 1 side. Take a 1-inch steel pipe that will fit inside and leave a 6-millimeter space around it. This tube also has a screw thread. For both pipe fittings (internal thread).
Inner pipe on the circumference with welded or nuts or balls so that the pipe is more or less centered in the outer pipe when you put them together. Mount a threaded flange on the outer tube, insert the small tube with nuts or balls into the outer tube and mount a connection nipple for a water hose on the inner tube.

Put the pipes upright and with the help of water pressure (external pump) you flush a neat hole in the ground by flushing away all the soil.
You can drill as deep as you want by always putting a new piece on the pipe.

If you can be sure by pumping water every now and then and watching the color and clarity. Raise the inner tube and leave the outer tube in place.
Mount a filter basket on a 3.4 or 1 inch pipe and lower it into the outer pipe. You can use the drill pipe yourself for this.

There are plenty of examples on the internet in google how to make a well yourself.

Ask that acquaintance for the telephone number of that 100-meter professional.
Maybe he knows a fellow craftsman in your area.

You can safely believe the locals, indeed take a look at the topography. What happens in the rainy season? Where does the water go? Take a good look at everything.

Keep in mind that a permit is required for this, which can save a lot of misery

    Hello Jamie,
I live in Chondaen myself. I drilled a well. I don't know the name of the company that did it. But if you drive to Petchabun from Bueng Sampan. Even before Nong Pai. have a Mosque on the right side of the road (about 7 km). The man(s) who dug the well were Muslims. Nice people and hard workers. I think they have a farm with cows and buffaloes in the area (near that mosque). and went to the mosque always for prayer. ask the iman he knows them.

Incidentally, my well was struck on or in a granite surface.
The well has finally become 68 meters deep. (two days of work)

When they hit the well, make sure they line the wall of the well with a PVC pipe to prevent the well from collapsing.

      Dear Jan,
Chondaen, indeed, is not that far. See the temple before me, there are not so many.
      Thanks for the tip.

I can still tell you that the price for drilling the well and the powerful pump (in the well) with Electra cable and PVC screen wall (67 meters 10 inch diameter) and PVC water pipe in the well and up to two meters from the well will give us cost 50.000 baht. But it must be said that this prize was awarded through friends. (hard negotiating was necessary). I'm not involved in that myself. Because if farang is paid, 10.000 baht is not looked at.
The power of the pump is such that in a final test the water sprayed straight up about 3,5 to 4 meters. The well was thus 67 meters deep. So the pump could easily handle this 67 meters straight up and then another 3,5 to 4 meters in the free space.

So be smart. Leave the contact with the putters and the negotiating to the Thai friends. And when the price has been agreed, you can show up again. They will not want to renegotiate the price. But with me they tried to make a profit by not installing the PVC screen wall. Because we had paid a deposit (that was a request from them) the rest of the agreed amount was not paid before the screen wall was placed.
The latter matters (negotiations by Thai friends and not immediately paying in full but a down payment) is also a normal course of events for me (and also other farang).
And have the installation tested after delivery and a few days of use. Only then pay the full amount.

Dear Jaume, I know someone in Khon Kaen who can give you some good advice. If you want info about it, send me something

My neighbors had it done, but it is expensive, I think it was 80.000 before the drilling. Others experience?

Very nice that Philippe, ser kokke and farang khon kaen offer to help Jaume (BE) further.
But since the editors do not provide e-mail addresses, it would be useful for Jaume (BE) if they also provide their contact details. 🙂
In addition, the response option will be closed within 3 days. ;(

When I was still living in Thailand in 2010, I had a borehole done, at a depth of 12 m we had water and that cost me 8000 baht at the time.
