Dear readers,

I will first go to Koh Chang in mid-March and then to Sihanoukville. Does anyone know the best way to get there?

Thanks in advance,

Anita

    Hi Anita,
A boat goes a bit below Koh Chang to Sihanoukville.
    Better than the bus.

First you go from Koh Chang to Trat.

Minibuses depart from the bus station in Trat to the border, Ban Hat Lek.
You walk into Cambodia, there are guys on mopeds who drive you to Koh Kong, a few kilometers away. But I seem to remember that there is also transport similar to the Thai "baht taxis".

Don't be tempted by those guys on the mopeds to go to a money changer because you will get a very, very bad rate. You can pay with baht in Koh Kong and with US dollars everywhere in Cambodia.

For transport from Koh Kong, see here:

I did it once with a microbus.
Was easy to do but took almost all day because the bus first goes to Trat, you have to change there and the next bus waits until it is full before it leaves for koh kong.
There we crossed the border where there is a visa office halfway through the border crossing.
Spend the night in the local village and take a bullet boat to Sihanoukvile the next morning.
Nowadays I think this can be done better by bus.
I think if you go to the border by taxi that you can easily do it in a day.

How you get there is in the other answers. Highly recommended the drive from Ko Kong to Siahanoukville!!
A beautiful ride. Do it with a bus, not a van, then you have great views. Have your camera ready Have fun.

You can buy a combi ticket anywhere on Koh Chang. They pick you up at your hotel, you take a minivan on the ferry and to the border, then you cross the border yourself and there is a large bus that takes you to Sihanoukville.

You can also arrange all this yourself if you want to save 1 or 2 euros…
