Can you get a “fixed internet connection” in Thailand?
Dear readers,
Just a quick question from a computer geek. In January 2020 I hope to have emigrated to Chiang Mai. In the Netherlands I have a fixed internet connection from Ziggo. This allows me to use the internet on my laptop all day long. The apartment I expect to rent in Chiang Mai does not have internet. So I will have to take care of that myself.
Does Thailand also know the term “fixed internet connection” and if so, from which company can I order it? And then people come to my house to set up a box (as with KPN and Ziggo).
I just take out a mobile internet subscription for my smartphone, so that works. But I also want to be able to work on my laptop all day without any worries.
Does anyone have experience applying for a fixed internet connection in Thailand?
Thank you very much for your responses.
Regards,
Peter
Yes, for example with 3bbb, ADSL, costs 600 bth per month, I have good experience with it. You get a strong router range between 20 - 40 m outside the house (depending on the weather), so easy for your WiFi and your laptop remotely
Willc
3BB including my own router at home cost me 750 baht per month last year. For the installation of a fixed cable (which was even longer than 60 meters with me!) Of course you only pay now and then have an offer and then the installation will cost you nothing. Please note! You are entering into an annual subscription! I left after 6 months and when I returned after 6 months there was a bill for 2.250 baht waiting for me. Due to the intervention of my landlord, this has been waived. I then opted for a month of fast and unlimited WiFi connection via Dtac for 520 baht on my tablet because this connection applies throughout Thailand and you are therefore not confined to your home. However, this will not apply to PCs because in my case you need a card for the credit. So my story will probably not be of great use here, but it might be for others.
You say you need a card, so you can use your smartphone as a tethering for your laptop or PC, I thought?
I myself have 3bb for a little less than 600 baht / month via an annual subscription to VDSL, and I also have a connection outside my home if 3bb WiFi is available, even automatically connect the password
You have various providers here, each with their own packages. In some places in Thailand you have fiber optic cables, others none at all, such as with me, where we receive internet via an antenna.
You can get different speeds. You can also get a fixed internet connection and mobile internet for a price from some providers. I can't say which or which are the best. The most famous are 3BB, AIS, TOT, Dtac and True.
Almost every city has an office, whether or not in a shopping mall. Prices start around 650 Baht per month, subscriptions last for a minimum of one year.
Yes, you also have different providers in Thailand such as True, 3BB, TOT and others. They deliver with a router (box like KPN)
I have fiber optic internet via TOT, which costs 700 baht (+7% VAT).
Joining was free.
Initially this had to be in the name of a Thai. Later on I could
own name, if I paid a year in advance. That's what I do nowadays.
Various acquaintances have a 3BB subscription and are also satisfied with it.
Yes Peter, I have 3BB as a provider, a good one and not too expensive..
Make a cable connection for a fee, kind of ISDN, they install it and you get a 3BB modem with your subscription.
You can also choose a fiberglass connection.. see their site..https://www.3bb.co.th/3bb/
Greetings and good luck..
Plenty of choice. TOT, 3BB, True, …. take a look around to see where there is a promotion and what you need. They usually arrive at your door within 2 days. extend the cable, place the router against the wall and half an hour later you have internet. We ourselves have TOT, 641 THB per month. cruel content of.
Of course that is possible, but an interim solution is to simply take out a good mobile subscription. You can get 4 Mbps with unlimited data for THB 150/month! and you can set your smartphone as a hotspot for your laptop. Maybe you like it so much that you don't want a router anymore...
Dear Koen 150 thdb is very cheap. Which society is that. I recently had unlimited 4G, but that costs 500 thb at Dtac.
Chris
Dear Koen. I would like to know from which provider you can take out this cheap subscription.
Chris, Markus, is not a subscriber. AIS Promotion pre-paid (I thought 'The One SIM') card for 1 month. So you have to renew it every month, but in our case that is only 20 steps.
...it may also be that there has been some tampering. My wife always does it for me and she has a more expensive subscription herself. I don't ask too much and take advantage of it because I don't have to think too much... The girl from the shop 'is a friend...'
There are various providers with a choice of multiple speeds. In any case, 3BB can now also be found everywhere in CM at some locations with fast fiber optic. Cheapest THB 590/month 50MB. Tel.cable of hundreds of meters is drawn for free, so you can also take a landline telephone.
Installed within a few days for little, and few failures, Only occasional outages during thunderstorms, but never longer than a few hours. If there is a problem, excellent service (also English speaking). Router can be bought anywhere in electronics shops on specification of 3BB. Forgot price. Think about THB 2000.
Good luck and welcome to CM.
Dear Peter,
I live in San Sai which is a "suburb" of Chiang Mai.
We have a fiber optic company here 3BB and offer a fiber optic connection directly to a new router that they place at your home. As a foreigner you have to pay 6 months in advance. It was quite abused. Fast internet from 699 Bhat and incredible super fast internet for 1.249 Bhat. Enne Soon 5G Are you still there, Asia is much further than Europe.
As a foreigner you have to pay 6 months in advance? At 3BB?
I have had a subscription with TOT and fiber optic from 3BB in recent years.
AND, I pay per month, in the past with TOT and now with 3BB.
Matter of the right documents, rental contract, copy of passport and perhaps in some cases a copy of a visa is requested.
If there are any problems, it might be helpful to call the head office in Bangkok first.
Hi Peter, I had 3BB installed here, in my case a free installation, with a fast and very well-functioning internet and very cheap compared to Belgium.
Best.
Dear,
Just like in the Netherlands or in Belgium, you can of course also get a fixed internet connection here in Chiang Mai.
There are also several providers here like Ais, True, 3BB just to name a few.
Applying for a connection is done quickly if you live in the city, you are usually already connected the next day.
Some providers work with a contract of a minimum duration for connection, eg 1 year. I myself have a connection of 3BB, no contact and can be canceled at any time.
If you go to a shopping mall you will usually find all the internet providers together on 1 floor, which is easy because then you can immediately compare their prices, conditions and speeds.
Geert.
Just opted for AIS Fiber ... super service and 'just' pay per month through an annual contract. At 3BB I had to pay a year in advance …
Yes Karel, Idd pay a year in advance, but then you get a discount.
LOUISE
Forget about 3bb with its router. Inquire at ais and take out a monthly subscription for 550 baht. Unlimited and fast with tethering spot, so that you can also work on your laptop and possibly connect other mobile phones. All this works perfectly throughout Thailand. I have been doing this for two years to my complete satisfaction.
I pay 850 fiber optic internet and TV, many football broadcasts even ohl from Belgium 55 at treu
In CM, 3BB is available everywhere. If you rent something, there may already be a TV connection, these are the same groups that also offer internet. You may be able to get a subscription or connection from the existing company at a slightly cheaper price. As you read above, they are all available. You will immediately notice this from the wires that hang between the electrical poles here. Wireless road is in Bangkok but there are even more wires there.
Dear Peter,
If you also want to watch TV via the internet (IPTV), then 3BB is the best option. TOT is currently a disaster !

I've had it all with True Internet, the Internet connection drops out every once in a while. 1x even for three days and this week already 2x for hours. Have switched to 3BB fiber, 50MB for Baht 639- p / month including VAT. Connection free but have to wait 15 days because they are very busy with new connections so I'm fiddling with True. 3BB router right away and is at my house. You can get 100MB for Baht 700- Previously had ToT but that was a complete disaster.
