Reader question: “Poop with or without a bag?”

Dear readers,

Everyone in Hua Hin knows them, unless you never go to the beach: the "Police Volunteer" on horseback. Friendly guys (as well as some women) who gallop up and down the beach, keeping an eye on things. To earn some extra money you can take a ride on their horse.

Nothing wrong with that, but such an animal, like any earthly being, must of course get rid of its needs. The riders in question generally clean up the poop neatly in a plastic bag. That's very thoughtful of them, the unwary hiker will certainly appreciate this.

Only….. the bag then remains in place, with the result that it is swallowed by the sea at high tide, which I find less pleasant.

If I assume 25 horses (a rough estimate) that shed twice a day (also a rough estimate) I arrive at 50 bags per day x 365 = 18.250 bags that go into the sea every year!

So just give me "Poop without a bag".

Would like your opinion.

Regards,

Ron

I was in Hua Hin for 4 weeks at the beginning of this year
and I have seen that they take the bags neatly .

It is indeed better for them to leave that manure without a plastic bag than with it. Shit is broken down by nature. Not plastic. It only falls apart into small pieces after many years, which in turn ends up in the stomachs of fish and other living creatures in the sea.
We sometimes eat those animals, so that we also ingest those plastic particles.
You can't tell me that's healthy.
Turtles sometimes eat entire plastic bags, mistaking it for a jellyfish, part of their normal diet. These animals often die from this.
With this, too, man takes himself. The fewer turtles, the more jellyfish. So good luck swimming.
I don't know about you, but I'd rather step into a horse turd than into a jellyfish.
When I see that they leave a plastic bag with horse droppings at the waterline I move it to the top of the beach to take it later and dump it in a garbage can.

We come to Hua Hin every year and we really think this is the most annoying thing about Hua Hin! The horses gallop from left to right, poop is half cleaned up and you have to keep shouting May aue .. when you walk there with the kids.

May they ban it, luckily there are better lounge bars by the sea!

a memory from my earliest childhood years is that my great-grandparents and their neighbors eagerly scooped up the horse manure of the itinerant merchants and the like to fertilize their gardens! Plastic was rare then.
    Beautiful memories !

yes, horse poop is not dirty at all and I wouldn't worry if you accidentally step on it, after all, the animals don't eat meat.
Horses sometimes ride in our neighborhood and now the neighborhood wants a bag under the animals, but the horse poop doesn't bother me at all

five to ten percent of all horses are infected with the salmonella bacteria, which they excrete with the manure. Many horses also have so-called ringworm, a fungal infection that can also spread to humans.
NEVER stand in horse manure with a wound on your foot. That can be disastrous.
Horse manure is very dangerous for children.

Go to Hua Hin 2 x a year. Already encountered many of those plastic bags with horse manure and when the water rises, what a dirty mess. Didn't know that the men and women on horseback were police volunteers. One would think of those people expect a little more discipline. Also here in Ostend, everyone who walks their dog on the street must have a visible plastic bag to clean up the turds of their favorite animal. What happens in practice, many people take the bags with them home but others throw it in the sewer or leave it on the street. You should know that the sewage water here is purified into drinkable water. A little more civic sense and discipline wouldn't hurt either!!

Just ban those horses on the beach. Dangerous, (seen accidents several times); dirty shit and….piss in the sea at rising tide; unecological with plastic bags that are thrown away; and….
a terrible suffering for the horses with 12 hours in a sweltering heat.

Those horses 'belong to Hua Hin' as far as I'm concerned. A typical image here on the beach.

Indeed, the poop is (almost) always cleaned up. Rightly so. It is not a pretty sight, such a hope on the sand.
But what I don't like is that there are a few rotten apples that deposit their bag in a quiet corner. That is absolutely against the rules. And it is indeed more polluting than just some shit.

Feel free to speak to such a rider if you see him dumping his bag somewhere other than in a garbage can. With complaints you can also contact the tourist police in the street between Hilton and Centara. All official riders have a number on both their vest and under the saddle. In case of complaints, it is possible to find out who the rider in question was and that person will therefore be held accountable for his or her behaviour.
