Home » Reader question » Reader question: How do I find an installer for a renovation in Isaan?
Dear readers,
My name is Fred and I am very passionate about Thailand and its people. I would like to stay with my parents-in-law in the Isaan for a while, but they live in a refined stable.
At my expense I would like to have a European toilet installed, a kitchen, a shower with hot water and a suspended ceiling in the living room, bedroom and kitchen so as not to have direct contact with everything that lives on this planet.
Question: Who can help me with a supplier and installer?
Kindly comment.
Best regards.
Fred
Hi Fred,
My wife's cousin does housing, I asked him for his phone number and I will let you know. Namely My Thai wife is also from the Isaan.
Sincerely
Lung John
The isam is so big, describe it more clearly, eg place of residence
Fred, there are more than enough suppliers in Isaan these days. Nowadays you can find large hardware stores everywhere in Isaan, such as Globa, Home Hub, Home Pro, Home Market, etcetera. You can get everything you mention there in different price ranges.
If you want hot water in the shower, you can opt for an electric flow heater, which you can already buy for around 3.000 baht. Many people choose it because of the price. However, those devices do remove pressure from the water and water pressure on the water pipe is sometimes already problematic in the Isaan. Moreover, these things also sometimes exhibit cures due to the poor water quality. I would advise you a boiler of 50 or 100 liters. They are also easier to maintain. Nowadays, those things can also be found from 7.000 baht. You can also immediately have hot water installed in the kitchen. Whatever device you buy, let them ground! That is something that people tend to forget quite quickly here. There are long copper spikes that you hammer into the ground for grounding. Of course don't forget to connect the device to that pin!
Installers or contractors are also fairly easy to find these days. In every village someone knows one or more installers.
Success!
If you tell me where in the isaan you live maybe I can help you.

If you happen to be near Nakorn Ratchasima, I'd be happy to help you on your way. I myself am a contractor in the Netherlands and I also know my way around here. When it comes to electricity and water, the Thais are not that strict, so you have to be very careful with that. I will be in Thailand until the end of January, my email address is bennederland@hotmail. com greetings and good luck.
Hello dear people, thanks for the quick responses.
My parents-in-law live between Buriram and Surin near Krasang.
For the hot water I opted for a heating unit from Toshiba, see how long it lasts.
I haven't made much progress on installing a kitchen as what I've seen wouldn't look out of place in a prison.
I also have to shop further for lowering the ceiling.
I can be reached at number 09-58358272
Best regards. Fred.
Tip: there are hot water appliances with double electrical shut-off. It is unpleasant to be naked in the bath early in the morning. And number 2), note the phase in Thailand. They often switch the neutral line. That means when the fluorescent lamp is switched off, there is still current (phase) on the device. Not nice if you are thundered by the 230V shock of your bamboo ladder when you open the fixture. Good luck showering by light Fred. great martin
Dear Fred,
You can easily make a suspended ceiling from metal strut profile and plasterboard. Seen in Buriram at a major supplier on the road to Nangrong. (road nr 218). Keep in mind that Thai people like high spaces because warm air rises. A high space therefore provides more cooling.
You can easily make worktops for kitchens yourself by gluing 60×60 cm floor tiles with silicone sealant on an 18 mm thick shera board. This is cement bonded board. Dutch trade name Cempanel..
I have also seen ready-made base cabinets at the same shop.
You will also find American kitchen layouts in Buriram at a major construction halt along road no. 226
I also installed a flow water heater (Panasonic) The device has been working perfectly for 4 years.
I do have to clean/scratch the filter at the input every three months. The pumped spring water contains a lot of lime (comparable to boiler scale).
I hope this information is of some use to you.
Anthony.
Dear Fred, in rural areas there are no installers, only handy farmers. Warning, be there !!! You have to purchase materials yourself from thai watsadu or home pro. Self 4 years of construction experience in this than sai .... success
This response may be a little late, but there is so much construction going on here in Isaan at the moment, why don't you stop somewhere where construction is going on with your wife or girlfriend and let them ask some questions there, I was the same way years ago. My contractor came to Korat and we enjoyed it a lot. Maybe an idea for you and you know... asking costs nothing
That's right, JM, I've already suggested this in previous construction topics on this blog. A lot is currently being built throughout Isaan and also well built. The fact that there are no good installers or contractors to be found in Isaan can be dismissed as utter nonsense. Of course, one also has to separate the wheat from the chaff here, just like elsewhere in the world. Just keep your eyes peeled and step towards something.
