What is the best way to insulate a roof with steel plates?

Dear readers,

My Thai girlfriend lives in a house with those well-known cheap steel roof plates (available in all colors, but often blue). That makes quite a noise when it rains. Also, when the sun shines and it does quite often, it gets very hot inside and you can fry an egg on the roof.

What is the best way to insulate it and with what kind of material. Replacing the entire roof is not an option.

Regards,

Dirk

You have steel plates that are already insulated at the bottom against the heat and that also helps against the noise.
I had two houses built close to each other, 1 normal and a somewhat larger hiis with those insulated plates, evht quite a lot.

With pur spray, a company with Dutch management is in chaam. But I believe it works everywhere

Dear Dirk. Indeed, you do not have to replace your entire roof, but you do have to replace the corrugated sheets with sheets that are insulated on the inside.
I have just replaced those plates myself, the price is not too bad and it makes a big difference in temperature. You can order the plates in one piece and are calculated per meter. I would go to where they sell those records, the price will not be successful

I used a simple and cheap construction for an outbuilding.

Buy large foam plates (foam plastic) Cut strips of 5 cm in the width of a few plates.
Stick the first strip with Pattex Fix (nail power) to the corrugated iron roof at the start of the roof construction. Let the second strip protrude 2 cm from the foam plate. Plate 5 is glued to it. Plate 1 is glued to this strip, which is placed on strip 2, which also protrudes 3 cm.
Both the ends of the plates and the strips are provided with this Pattex Fix.
2 long skewers are placed on the short sides and also on the sides as a kind of extra coupling. If the roof construction on which the corrugated iron plates rest, please calculate how the foam plates fit best between or over them. So the foam plates are glued to the strips.
In this way, a space is created between the corrugated iron roof and the foam that also has an insulating effect, the foam that has been installed underneath has a strong heat-resistant and sound-resistant effect.
Easy to do yourself and doesn't cost much and there will be a neat ceiling!
    Success.

I had the thickness of the foam plates 3 cm.

Be careful with this insulation you will have nests of insects in it. Bees and wasps also love to make a nest.

There is an even simpler way. There is a paint on the market specifically for this kind of problem.
Google: Planet Supra Nano Thermal Barrier Paints. A reflective paint with a 10-year guarantee, especially for metal roofs, that ensures that the sun's heat does not penetrate into the house. Even 7-Eleven uses it.
i applied it myself on the roof of my wife's house in the philippines 2 years ago now. It really makes a world of difference in the house. Doesn't need air conditioning anymore, saves a lot of electricity.
But more importantly, if it is an existing roof, you no longer have to fumble around to install insulation materials. Saves time and conflicts at home. Clean the roof, spray paint on it, let it dry, done.

Dirk, the best is what they say, steel or plastic plates with an insulated bottom layer and roof tile profile with all colors available.
The bottom is nicely finished in white plastic.
It is screwed onto a wooden substructure, the screws are provided with a rubber ring for water sealing.
Also ensure the overlap when assembling.
The plates are available, thought 6 mtr length and 3 mrt wide, they can be ordered in advance.
Just hope they are available in Thailand.
    Success.

I think in Thailand it also gives a factory that makes insulated roofing sheets. Under steel or aluminum plate then div. Thicknesses of pur foam then again steel sheet with corrugation so that you overlap.
In the industry see them often. I think the factory is above Bangkok and following me a daughter of an English company. Ben

    A few different ideas.
Put something like rubber strips between the roof sheets and the iron beams they are screwed on to dampen the noise.
Mount a second roof of strips of Eternit or a similar material on top of the iron roof plates.
Then the raindrops do not fall directly on the iron plates, and they also block the sunlight, so that the roof becomes less hot.
Open at the top and bottom, so that you get an ascending airflow over your iron roof.

This is really the most effective and simple solution. Super invention!
