Dear readers,

I have heard through the grapevine that a number of Dutch people in Thailand have been told that the Rabobank accounts will be closed. Just as happened with the ABN-AMRO accounts at the time.

Another Dutchman, who had lost his ABN-AMRO account, was told by Rabobank in the Netherlands that they would also stop using accounts from Dutch people in Thailand.

Then only ING remains….

Who can confirm this rumour?

Regards,

Ernst-Jan

It seems to me that only Rabobank can confirm that. I still have my ABNAMRO account, but perhaps it makes a difference that I am a former employee.

The fact that you still have your account proves that ABNAMRO is lying in its procedures at the kifid about not having permits.
She wouldn't be able to offer you an invoice without permits.
Neither do the expats who stay here temporarily.

      But that was already clear.
I have also expressed this in the complaint to the kifid, but neither ABNAMRO nor the kifid has responded to the accusation of deception.
Which says a lot of course.

Incidentally, ABNAMRO does not literally say that it has no permits, but does suggest that with the choice of words.

Moreover, she has sent me newspaper reports stating that the ABNAMRO has no permits, which does show the intention to deceive.

We are waiting to see what will be in the verdict, but the communication between kifid and ABNAMRO, in which my questions to ABNAMRO go through the kifid, which then passes them on in a distorted and incomplete way, instead of literally, and the kifid accepts that questions that are not answered, or are only half answered, does not give you a good feeling about the expected verdict.

Not that that matters, because the ABNAMRO could always close my account with article 35.
In the meantime I do have a very interesting and readable file about the communication between kifid and ABNAMRO.

incomprehensible that you still have your account here because you are former staff,
I have lived in Thailand for 20 years and have had an ABNAMRO account for more than 50 years
      now brutally stopped
via the Bangkok bank I have to pay euro33 in transfer costs for the smallest payment (Fleurop, a book, etc.)
      disgraceful!

Do you have no friends or family who can open an account for you in the Netherlands?
So simple… saves you a lot of money.

        • Herbert says up

Account in the name of friends is nice, but if there is more in it than the tax-free amount, they will be assessed according to the tax law

You can open an account with ING yourself without any problems, even if you live abroad permanently or temporarily. Excellent service. So I would think why not just leave those other banks. There is money to be made from it otherwise ING would not do it either.

Dear Ernst-Jan, it is true that ING will continue because, unlike ABN, it does have a license for Thailand. If the RABO says they're going to stop, they will.

Maybe there is another internet bank that does have a permit, I would google it if I were you. At least you have certainty.

    Succes

The Rabobank does not say that!

      Only the rumor circuit!

Ing is also represented in Thailand with its own offices. For about 4 to 7 years their logo was even on buildings. It is true that it officially included an insurance arm of ING ( Chanthaburi). However, for a vague description, they have redone that leg. The logo is gone but the background is still orange.

The ING in Thailand is only a bank for companies, not for individuals.

        • Hendrik says up

Chris, ING is also there for individuals in Thailand, in November everything was converted to Thailand (address, telephone and my wife's 2nd card) and no other actions. So purely private.
This was all neatly arranged and not a word was said about living in Thailand.

          • chris says up

Are we talking about the same thing? Because I have my ING account in the Netherlands with a Thai address and telephone number, but my account has NOT been transferred to Thailand. I also couldn't get a new ATM card in Bangkok.

            • Hendrik says up

I think there is indeed some confusion, you remain a customer in the Netherlands. They send a new ATM card from the Netherlands to the address registered with ING.

ING is a shareholder in the TMB bank. That bank has no special business relationship with ING.

I recently passed on my change of address to Rabobank. In addition, I had extensive contact with this bank in April regarding various other matters. Thailand has been explicitly discussed in this regard. The bank has not indicated in any way that they intend to close my account.
It is best to inquire at your own Rabo office.

ordinary commercial considerations may play a role. A Dutch account of someone living in Thailand will probably hardly be used. Just like any other organization, a bank wants to earn something from a customer. It is expected that a small Dutch customer can become a larger customer, for example a loan, insurance, mortgage, etc. etc. That is not possible for a customer who lives in Thailand. In addition, the new legislation requires quite a bit of extra work for customers outside the EU.
If you expect a customer to only cost money, costs are higher than benefits, it is quite logical that you want to get rid of it. A less conspicuous excuse is then quickly found.
I would like to know whether clients of ABNAMRo with a solid investment portfolio or, for example, still own or are involved in a company in the Netherlands have also been shown the door, or whether they have also been kicked out.
Edaonang says above that he recently had contact with Rabo “about various other matters”. It could be that he is a Thai customer who does more with his account than paying a few bills in the Netherlands. send flowers, ed.

DHB bank you can open an account via computer

    • Hans Bosch says up

A nonsensical proposition. The conditions of DHB state that you must have a contra account with a Dutch bank. And you just lost it…

  6. Roof says up

Even with a stock portfolio and a number of other products, your account will be closed. Even if you still have a company account with a nice balance from a Dutch BV. Your private account is closed.

  7. Keith 2 says up

Abnamro will not cancel if you still have a mortgage.

But I don't understand why people are so concerned about Abnamro or possibly Rabo… There are several other banks. Or take a foreign bank: N26 in Germany for example. Only seems a bit more expensive when transferring money to Germany. But a credit card is free.

  8. PaulW says up

Mmm, I just converted my address at Rabo from China to Thailand. I have not heard that I am being lifted. Keep an eye on it.

  9. jay says up

well Hans bos isn't that absurd an account with ING as a contra account and an account with DHB for a much better interest rate than with ING it's just what you call nonsensical
