Reader question: Where can I rent bicycles in Bangkok?
Dear readers,
We want to go cycling in Bangkok when we are there. But not with such an organized excursion. We want to explore things ourselves.
Now my question is where can we rent bicycles in Bangkok? Does anyone have a reliable address?
We are in Hotel Baan Silom Soi 3 I hope you know something in that area.
Greetings,
Bianca
Just like in Amsterdam, London, Paris, you can rent public bicycles. You can find this in the old city center close to the royal palace.
Hi, we have good experience with velothailand,.
Do not cycle in Bangkok yourself. It's not Amsterdam….. besides, you never know where to find all kinds of nice little alleys and streets. You can cycle well on the Chao Praya River, but it is not that interesting and special there
I advise you to cycle a nice route outside the city with Bangkokbiking. We have been cycling in Bangkok for 13 years. Always with Bangkok biking and for the rest: nice walking or sailing or with the Skytrain.
With http://www.bangkokbiking.com/
you can cycle a nice route outside the city together.
DON'T, as it says here. Go to Michiel Hoes, a Dutchman, wonderful tours, you come to places you would not find yourself. Good material and good guidance, with a lot of explanation.. Look at TripAdvisor to see what others think of it. I've done it a few times so speak from experience. more fun and safer.
Good luck Ruud
Co van Kessel was the first Dutchman to start bicycle tours in Bangkok and Michiel Hoes also used the name of Co van Kessel for a while to capitalize on the reputation of Co van Kessel and has therefore organized bicycle tours under his name in Bangkok. The real Co van Kessel has since passed away. We also cycled with Michiel Hoes. But we prefer to cycle than with Co van Kessel because of the many years (more than 30 years) of experience.
The company of Co van Kessel still exists and so prefer to cycle with Co van Kessel. Good routes and very reliable.

Sorry Marianne, but you are not fully aware of the Kessel/Hoes ratio. Hoes had taken over everything, but Kessel started again. I've already explained it more. Just search this Blog. The one with the most experience is now HOES. Good routes and “” very”” reliable http://realasia.net/
As a tourist I wouldn't just cycle around in Bangkok. Traffic is too hectic and you are likely to miss a lot. You can, for example, go to Ko Kret (island in the Chao Phraya north of Bangkok), where, although rickety, bicycles are rented with which you can explore the island. Or you go to Ban Krachao and rent a bike to explore. Both places have hardly any traffic and especially on Ko Kret you can't really get lost or anything.
