Home » Reader question » Reader question: Does anyone have experience flying with Finnair
Dear readers,
I have a question about Finnair flights to Bangkok. Does anyone have experience with these flights? Is Finnair recommended?
Regards,
Archen
I once flew with Finnair from Brussels via Helsinki to Bangkok.
Between Brussels and Helsinki you get a (tasty) snack and a drink.
Helsinki Airport is not very big. It is clear and tidy.
You will of course get meals between Helsinki and Bangkok. There are individual screens.
The staff are friendly and the flights were on time in my case.
It has been years since I was forced to leave Thailand quickly and only Finnair had a seat over Helsinki to Amsterdam. I didn't expect anything from it but I really liked it. I couldn't think of any criticism. It was only a one-way ticket from Bangkok.
There's nothing wrong with a good society
It's been a few years now, but I've had good experiences. Departure and arrival time pleasant. This was from Düsseldorf. Short stopovers in Helsinki. Food and drink fine. Friendly cabin crew.
I once flew with FinnAir from Schiphol to Bangkok return, I thought it was in 2000. Was flown to Helsinki for free, where I had to wait for several hours, then direct flight to BKK. Good food and good service. Were well maintained aircraft and looked like new. Other than that, it was just sitting on a plane, just like anywhere else. A good and safe society.
I have flown with it once to India. No complaints, great company. We had to transfer in Helsinki, not a big but neat airport, just everything to get. Good plane.
But I fly to get somewhere, not for the flying itself. So to recommend one company over the other… no. As long as I get to the other side in an acceptable way. But if this is a cheap choice, feel free to do it.
I flew it from Brussels to BKK last year. Nothing to complain about. No better or worse than any other airline I've flown with. Right on time, friendly staff. Helsinki is a small neat airport with good indications.
In the last 10 years, 3 times with Finnair. Great to do. Last time (3 years ago) even a Thai steward for the Thai passengers.
I have already had several flights with Finnair. Absolutely nothing to complain about, on the contrary. Very recently, due to overbooking with Austrian Air, I was sent via Helsinki to Bangkok. I was in a brand new Airbus A350 on my way to Bangkok. Beautiful device by the way. Finnair has purchased a large number of new Airbus aircraft in the renewal of their fleet. Helsinki Airport is small but clean and everyone speaks good English. The advantage for me personally of flying with Finnair is the short transfer times in Helsinki and their new aircraft. In economy you can book a seat with more legroom to travel more comfortably. Was an additional cost of € 80 if I'm not mistaken.
1 experience with Finnair. About 10 years ago my wife had to urgently go to Thailand due to grandmother's serious (terminal) illness. Quickly searched the net for an affordable ticket and ended up with Finnair, leaving the next day. A few hours after I dropped Madam off at Zaventem I received a phone call at home; it was Finnair customer service!! The Brussels-Helsinki flight had been delayed and as a result she had missed the connecting flight to BKK. She then panicked (a bit), didn't really know what to do and her limited knowledge of English naturally also caused the necessary excitement. A Finnair employee then took care of her and called me. In terms of “customer care” a 10 out of 10 for me.
Given the urgency, in consultation with my wife, I opted for a re-routing, so that she could still reach Thailand within 24 hours. It was Helsinki-Moscow, then Moscow-Beijing, then Beijing-Hong Kong and finally Hong Kong-BKK!! Afterwards my wife told me that at every stopover there was someone waiting for her to put her on the connecting flight... I had asked the Finnair employee if this was possible, given the sometimes short connection times. So again 10/10.
Unfortunately, there was no happy ending … when my wife finally arrived at the hospital where her grandmother had been admitted, she had died an hour before.
This year we flew with Finnair business class with flatbeds from BKK to AMS via HEL.
Beautiful brand new A350, good service, good food and a very short transfer in HEL.
Prices are often up to 50% cheaper than other airlines.
Recommended!
fly regularly in business class from Brussels to Bangkok, excellent service and so far always on time and + - 10h35 between Helsinki and Bangkok, prices are sometimes cheaper than other airlines
In 2012 flown with Finnair from Amsterdam - Helsinki - Bangkok nothing to complain about.
The transfer in Helsinki also went well. Outward journey had to wait 1 hour, nice a cup of coffee.
The plane was already waiting for the return journey, so we flew straight on. Nothing wrong with that
I just booked because of a good experience with them. I'm flying from Dusseldorf for a 2 hour layover in Helsinki and then to BKK. Total travel time 14 hours. Price incl. Travel insurance and cancellation….395,20 Euro! It is 'single trip', but it is generally more expensive than 'return'.
In 2012 I flew with Finnair (Amsterdam-Helsinki_Bangkok vv) and it is a great company to fly with and can definitely recommend it. I look at the applicable prices every time I go to Thailand and always fly with different airlines for the last 2 years with Etihad and Qatar, also excellent airlines and very competitive in terms of price. To answer your question, Finnair is fine to fly with.
My son has just flown with it, lives in Thailand, and worked in Finland, but he was very satisfied with it, lots of legroom especially!!
