First time to Thailand, how will our trip be memorable?

Dear readers,

We want to make a tour in Thailand as 2 couples aged 60+ in January 2023. It is the first time that we go to Thailand and have never been to another Asian country.

Actually, we would prefer to build our trip entirely ourselves and book it (locally). We are not unfamiliar with putting together long journeys. Flights national and international are easy to find and compare.

We are planning a trip with a net stay in Thailand of about 20-25 days. We would like to travel safely on site and are considering using a private driver/guide. Who can advise us with which building blocks and travel goals, this trip will be an unforgettable experience for us?

We would like to discover the beauty and culture of the country, love good food and also love to spend a few days on or near a bounty beach. Who can give us the examples that we can use?

Regards,

Jacques

Traveling in Thailand by train or bus is quite easy.
The service offered is excellent and all destinations are easily accessible by public transport
I would therefore advise against a private taxi, partly due to the rather dangerous traffic.
I have traveled with my Thai wife for the past 42 years in just about every corner of Thailand by public transport and never by private taxi.

the trip will take 20 to 25 days, where you have to realize that Thailand is a vast country, with many attractions.
I would put together the trip as follows and not travel too much.
Arriving in Bangkok perhaps somewhere in the morning and recovering from the trip for a day and taking a look at the surroundings of the hotel while walking.
Day 2 booking a train trip to chiang mai.
A day train will give more impressions than a night train where you see nothing of the area.
Second class by train is fine.
day 3, 4, 5 and 6 in chiang mai and day 7, 8, 9 and 10 for chiang mai area.
day 11 the night train back to bangkok and a day in bangkok on day 12.
Day 13 to Koh together with the bus. Eastern bus station for a bus trip of I thought 6 hours.
Day 14, 12, 16 and 17 stay on koh samet a beautiful island, where booking a bungalow in advance is advisable, especially during the weekends.
Day 18 return trip to bangkok by bus and day 19 and 20 browsing in bangkok in the shopping malls and markets. several organized day trips can be made from bangkok if the holiday lasts longer than 20 days.
Last day don't forget to go to the airport. The skytrain has a great cheap fast connection to the airport.

Thanks khun moo, that is at least a nice plan in outline!

        Don't mention it,

If you have any questions, you are always welcome.
Exploring the country on your own also gives you a better and deeper impression than with a private guide where you are taken from one tourist attraction to another.
In chiang mai itself you can arrange day tours to explore the area.
You can also rest for a day in between.

Be careful with the sun, the heat and the spicy food.
There is no shortage of hotels in any case.

    Dear Jacques,

My wife and I have already made several trips through Thailand by car. We were always accompanied by a Thai friend of ours. She speaks excellent English, is very familiar with all the beautiful places in the country, is very reliable and does the guidance entirely on a non-commercial basis. Inflamed by our good experiences, several couples of our friends have now also made use of her guidance. Each time to great satisfaction.
In two weeks our Thai friend will come to the Netherlands to stay with us for a few weeks.
She is then available for consultation to put together a trip for the group you are talking about and could then guide this group in January.
If this option appeals to you, you can contact me for further information by sending a message to email address: [email protected]
    Kind regards, Gert Woudsma

    Dear Jacques,

In view of your story, I advise you to contact greenwood travel https://www.greenwoodtravel.nl/greenwoodtravel-contact-us?gclid=Cj0KCQjwpeaYBhDXARIsAEzItbG7R4JbxmmEe-JbhUof1pc33sZprRJqrJs-FjsOivFxwwaOPSkeXBAaAiLREALw_wcB?

You could also google it. That is a Dutch travel organization that is based in Bangkok. I've booked some there a few times in the past and have had good experiences.

They can book everything for you in Thailand and can certainly give you good advice, because they have a lot of experience.
    One-day trips
    Multi-day trips
    Hotels

They can put together a nice trip for you that fits your wishes like no other.

    Groet

    Jer

I advise you to take a look at this site http://www.greenwoodtravel.nl. A travel agency in Bangkok led by a Dutchman. He has been doing this for almost 30 years. Unbeatable!

Don't worry, Thailand offers so many possibilities that you may find what you are looking for after some preliminary work on the computer. In addition, contact with fellow tourists/expats is often a rich source of information. In all my more than 20 visits to Thailand in the last 12 years, this has been proven time and time again.
If one is open to contacts with the friendly local population then I definitely recommend traveling by bus or train.
The first time I visited Thailand I took a private driver / guide for 6 days. Now I know I shouldn't have. I isolated myself from so many pleasant, unplanned experiences that way.
Who knows we will meet in January?!
    Good trip.

A trip to Thailand will certainly be unforgettable. You will be amazed again and again that everything is different there than in Europe. 🙂

Thailand is (except for the chaotic road traffic) a safe country to travel in. As a beginner, do not drive a vehicle yourself!

It is very easy to find and book everything online. Personally, I would advise against a driver/guide.

Book a stay online at booking.com or amazon.com. Read reviews on tripadvisor.

Read the do's and don'ts, Thailand for beginners, Thailand tips, scams, scams, etc. in the archives of Thailandblog. There are many facts that you should definitely know before you leave.

And count on that with only 20-25 days you will have to make a selection between everything Thailand has to offer.

    Enjoy your trip.

Be sure to take your time because you will end up in a completely different climate, it is better to travel slowly than to see as much as possible in a short time because fatigue can lead to stomach complaints (diarrhea) and that is annoying, I know from experience, and yes public transport is good but it can also be nice to take a flight every now and then, to get to your place quickly and easily. 1 thing: listen carefully to your body.
Have fun because that must be such a first time.

We have been coming to Thailand for several years.
And have already made many tours.
What suits us very well are the one- and multi-day tours of guide bussaya.
She speaks very good Dutch and Thai.
She has very reasonable prices and is very nice.
Just have a look at their Website: http://www.gidsbussaya.nl all their journeys are clearly displayed there.
You can also send them a message.
    Good luck..
