Book a new flight to Thailand, EVA Air or KLM?

Dear readers,

I have been flying with EVA Air for years, and am now looking for a new flight around 01-2020. EVA will soon fly with a new aircraft. I don't know how much leg room there is. Unfortunately, you now pay a contribution of $ 40 per flight to reserve a seat with EVA.

At KLM that is 25 euros per flight. Does anyone know anything about legroom at KLM? Both come to the same final amount, provided you reserve a seat.

KLM is more favorable in terms of arrival in Thailand, I think.

Hope someone can comment on leg room etc.

Regards,

Frank

Just go on the internet and type in the search query “legroom EVA Air” or KLM. There is even a website that indicates the leg space per company for economy, business class, etc. I don't know the new aircraft, but if you know, you can also enter the type of aircraft and sufficient information will often appear.
Personally, I have never worried about 1 or 2 centimeters more or less.

Maybe you are 1.75 meters tall. Then I get it.

But with my height of 1.90+, legroom is really an issue.

Just as well that some only fly to Thailand with hand luggage and others do not have enough with 40 kg. 🙂

      • HarryN says up

Willem , You are of course right, but for people with a height of 1.90 almost no chair will sit perfectly. I assume that you will always try to be able to sit near an EXIT door.

You will find a lot of information on this website

The last time I flew in a KLM plane, there were seats with a hard plastic back that my knees got stuck painfully against and couldn't move.
Furthermore, the seats were low, so you could no longer stretch your legs under the seat in front of you.

That was my last flight with KLM, and it will probably remain my last flight with KLM.

Dear Wil, no, I did not know this website, but I saw all those legrooms on WTC.nl (world ticket center)

Yes, I am also curious about the legroom. However, do you have to pay extra for a seat reservation? I just booked on the new plane but didn't pay any extra fees!

    • Frank says up

I called EVA, from 2020 it is payment they told me.
Will book anyway, and will then find out who is right.
Thank you. (also had no seat booking costs this January)

No dude, with EVA Air you don't have to pay for your seat number at all.
I do have a tip for this: sign up for EVA Air's frequent flyer program.

EVA now flies with Boeing-777, economy class legroom 84 cm..They are switching to Dreamliner with legroom (most likely..) 79 cm, same as economy KLM…..If you book directly with EVA (as I always do) pay u NOTHING for seat reservation.

  8. rene23 says up

Have the same problem. The new aircraft is the Boeing 787-9.
The economy class now starts at row 20 and the surcharges at BMair.nl vary from 30 to 120 USD per seat ONE WAY!
Only Qatar Airways does not yet participate in the surcharge per seat, but then you have a minimum transfer time of 2,5 hours in Doha.
In addition, KLM has 3-4-3 arrangement and EVA 3-3-3.
Since I always fly to Krabi, I am now thinking of AMS-Singapore and a return ticket to Sin-Krabi.
    Maybe others have good suggestions?

      René,

If you book directly with EVA Air, the seat costs nothing.

    • Unclewin says up

      To René 23:
We just got back from Krabi with Thai International.
The rate brussels to krabi was cheaper than brussels to bangkok.
Everything went well, we were just able to make the connection from Bangkok to Krabi despite the late arrival due to a snow storm at departure. Everything was neatly arranged upon arrival in Bangkok. We have never been able to get through immigration so quickly.
Also all flights, excellent service despite the almost full occupation.

Obviously the direct flight is the biggest advantage.

Depending on where you live and what exactly the other requirements are.
Have a look at Eurowings from Dusseldorf. Base price single is 199,95 Euro. You can book all options, but only 375 Euro is with all options.

Another tip take a look at the SISTERS of Evan Air in the Star Alliance: Swiss, Lufthansa, Austria, China, Thai, Turkish Airlines.

Ever bought extra legroom from KLM; € 90 one way. Are the chairs opposite the toilet, that place that many use to take a walk. So everyone looks at me extremely dirty, that I stick my legs out like that. NEVER AGAIN !

Go take a look http://www.seatguru.com, All airlines with their aircraft AND the information about seating in their aircraft. Very educational!

I couldn't find any data on Eva Air's 787 Dreamliner on seat guru. After some searching it is something on Eva Air's own website and here.

      https://www.evaair.com/nl-nl/flying-with-eva/fleet-facts/passenger/787-9.html?filter=Passenger&fleet=&seatmap=B789

They state that there is 31-32 inches of legroom which is as much as Eva Air states on their 777 data.

I am hoping for as much legroom as possible in the 787 economy as I have a flight booked for mid September 2019. I'm 1.89 so some space is nice.

Incidentally, a seat has already been reserved without any costs (booked directly with Eva).

Just got back from Thailand. Flew with KLM. Am 1:90 m. KLM (now) flies with Boeing 777. This aircraft has a lot of legroom in the front part. So you don't have to take an extra comfort seat, but you do want to be in the first economy section. Costs € 20,00 per seat for a single journey.

    Hi Frank

http://www.seatguru.com of http://www.seatexpert.com on these sites you can compare various seats from different airlines. NB Pitch is the space between two rows of seats measured from a fixed point and width is always the width of the seat in inches. Looks like both fly with the 787 Dreamliner where seats are the same Pitch 31 and width 17.5. Only an Economy Comfort gives 3 inches more between the seats.
If you are looking for a little more space, take a look at Emirates, you only have a stopover, but I like that myself, they fly A380 or Boeing 777. Regards Jaap

      Thank you Jaap.

I read a few times here that EVA doesn't charge for seat selection. That was true until recently, but I just tried to book again and now it appears that EVA charges an extra € 40 per single flight for seat selection.

    • Hans says up

The fact that Eva charges extra for seat selection has indeed started quite recently. I made my booking where that was still free in mid-January.

Then I looked at reserving a seat at an emergency exit, but it cost € 122 per one way. That was a bit too much for me.

  16. Francis Den Haan says up

The legroom at Eva air is more than at KLM
At Eva air you can stretch your legs well.

    • Hans says up

At KLM, according to seat guru, it is 777 inches for both the 787 and 31.

  17. Peter says up

From March 5, Eva air has a changed rate structure.
There are 4 fares in economy class: discount, basic, standard and plus.
Depending on the choice you make, you have to pay for seat reservation, max. weight of luggage, changes, etc
Can be found on the website of Eva air.

  18. Lessram says up

That's quite a bit extra. 40 euros per flight. For a return that is 80 Euro. Knowing that KLM flights are often just as expensive (give-or-take a euro or 5) And you arrive with KLM 4 hours earlier, and in the Netherlands you have less risk of traffic jams to Schiphol due to departure time…..

Try KLM anyway. Then slightly less service and 3 cm less legroom, with 1.75 it will not matter much.

  19. rene23 says up

Just bought 2 tickets EVA for the 787.
4 x €27 surcharge for the seats in Economy.

Eh I never understand the discussion about flying with Evan Air. Years ago I could somewhat imagine that.
What everyone ignores is the fact that Eva-Air is part of the Star Alliance.
It means that the basic service of all companies is more or less equivalent.

I prefer to fly from Germany already. Dusseldorf, Frankfurt. Cologne-Bonn or Munich.
    Seems further than it is.

    Preference: Swiss, Lufhansa, Austrian.
    Sometimes UIA, Finnair
Budget with one-way trips without checked baggage: Eurowings. No service, but a good flight. There 11 o'clock back 12 o'clock.
Arrival in BKK around 6.30 am, Arrival Dusseldorp around 6 am.

Tip try Thai Airways from Brussels directly to Bangkok. Top

    • rori says up

Only Zaventem is very difficult to reach and from my own work experience (worked in Belgium for 12 years) bad service.
Not once but several times even from the business class mess with baggage handling and other services.

  23. Mister BP says up

Every year I book with KLM. You don't have to pay anything extra for the standard seats. A limited number of seats have extra legroom and you pay for this per one-way trip. I always book directly with KLM.

used to fly often bkk/ams with eva and kl but lately with FINNAIR. cheaper and good quality service. daily several flights from HEL to AMS, so never wait longer than 1.5/2 hours. recommended.
