Dear readers,

We are going to Thailand for the third time in November, only this time I want to bring my Drone. Can someone tell me if I can take the Drone with me, and if so what are the rules for flying it?

Yours faithfully,

Bennie

Would you like to inquire at customs as well as at the airport authorities here for a possible permit and / or a pilot's license to fly here.

If you have a certificate, bring it with you just in case.
Inquire on location where a drone may or may not be used.

BVNot in the vicinity of airports, military objects, sometimes above large cities, transmission towers.

    Have fun!

A recent article indicates that if you follow the rules you can fly without registration with drones that are no heavier than two kilograms and do not have a camera.
If you want to fly with a camera, or if the drone is heavier than two kilos, or both, you must first have the drone registered, and that will keep you busy for a few months.

On Samui, the flight path of the airport has a sign with the following text.

    Operating Drones
Thai laws prescribe limitations for operation drones.
Violation of the law may result in cancellation of Drone Operating Permit.
For more details refer Ministry of Communications announcement dated 2 July 2015: Guidelines for obtaining permit and conditions of releasing drones.

So taking it with you is no problem, you will at least have to know where you can fly with it.

You can take your drone with you, it's the sixth time I've taken it with me from Belgium. In Thailand you need a permit if a camera is used while flying. I have a Phantom 3.

Hi Jos, I've also had my phantom 3 with me a few times,
Never had any problems, apart from extra checks in bkk at the airport whether the batteries are properly packaged and taken along in the right way. Furthermore, I fly with it in Thailand as I also use it here in the Netherlands, fortunately never had any problems,
But where did you register it for use in Thailand Jos? Because then I'll do that too, doesn't seem wiser,
      thanks in advance
      Regards Fund

That has to be done at the CAAT, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, see my earlier response with link.

Formally correct; presumably his holiday is over before he has his permission and has not flown a meter yet!

          Just inquire on location!

Make sure you have a shockproof case. Baggage handling is not always gentle. Also pay attention to the rules for taking the batteries with you. These are probably lithium batteries and must be carried in hand luggage. Then you will quickly reach your maximum weight.
