Customs in Thailand and import more than 20.000 baht?

Dear readers,

Does anyone have experience with customs when entering Thailand? In principle, you are not allowed to enter more than 20.000 baht, but you will quickly reach this amount if you have a more expensive bag or watch with you, for example.

Do you risk having to pay taxes for this?

Regards,

Rudi

Rudi, upon entry, after passport control, you take your luggage off the belt and then you enter Thailand through a green or a red gate. If you have something to declare, you take the red gate and then report that you have things that are worth more than…. And then there may be an invoice for import duty and VAT.

You can also go through the green gate and bet that there is no trap in the corridor behind it where you will be stopped and people want to look into your luggage. If you are caught doing so, there will also be a fine and possibly waiting a long time and filling in forms and then pulling out your wallet.

If you are not alone, you can divide the expensive stuff among several travelers in your group.

Incidentally, I think that one copy does not lead to a levy because then it is seen as a consumer item. So that clock is on your wrist and the bag hangs loosely from one arm…..

Maybe you can find some info on the site of Thai customs.

Coincidentally, I heard this week from a colleague of my wife that she had such an expensive bag on her shoulder upon arrival at the airport in BKK and had to dock, better put it in your hand luggage just to be on the safe side.

Don't panic too. If you bring an iPhone, you would also hang. But leave your goldwork, Rolexes and leather handbags and Leboutins at home. For a cheap price you can buy the same at a local market and you don't have to worry about theft in your room or on the street. Please note: you will run into a problem if you bring in a nice camera, bag or timepiece and mobile phone in the original packaging and then possibly with the invoice. Then you will have a problem with control. And alcohol maximum 1 liter, good luck.

As far as I know, you can bring $20.000 into Thailand without declaring it. more is also allowed, but then you have to indicate it. Just checked on google.
