Dear readers, As a retired head and neck surgeon, I regularly work in Asia, especially Indonesia, to improve oncological care (cancer care). Cancer care in Asia leaves much to be desired, usually due to a lack of quality and money. As a result, after a long agony, many – especially young people – die unnecessarily, especially within the less well-to-do classes. Our quality is setting up oncological centers in Indonesia where we offer help and care as best we can. Perhaps Thailand also lends itself to better cancer care, I'm pretty sure of that. Now, as experience shows, there are two possibilities:

  1. Setting up an expensive private clinic or collaborating with an already well-equipped Thai clinic, for example in BKK.
  2. Setting up a much smaller facility in the inland “rural areas” for example for early detection and simple but efficient cancer treatment. In other words, treating many patients directly with simple means without direct economic gain but a willingness to reinvest.

Option 1 provides a nice cash flow while option 2 does not. Robin Hood would use the income of 1 for 2 and that is ultimately the intention, at least that is how we work in Indonesia.

My question to readers, bloggers and others is… Who has good contacts with a Thai clinic(s), for example in BKK, where Dutch expertise might be welcome and with which a constructive project could be set up? For example, a clinic with existing contacts with the Netherlands? Does not necessarily have to be BKK, but can also be in the province. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Geerten Gerritsen

Our experience is that especially in Thailand there are certainly excellent hospitals.
However, also say 'citizen' hospitals of other allure, the treatments are good in themselves, but the care leaves much to be desired.
My daughter, who was then 3, was treated for leukemia in Bumrungrad hospital and this left nothing to be desired, although I did bring my own food almost every day.

In Chonburi there is a large state hospital especially for cancer patients, but the rooms there are different.

Will have contacted if expertise is desired, but what we have experienced is no shortage of specialists in large cities.

However, I will pass on your question to our known oncologists.

The treating physicians and prof/doctors regularly go abroad together with colleagues
    to discuss new treatments, etc.
Even in Rotterdam last year, but you probably know more about that than me.

In my opinion, Thailand is much further than neighboring countries.

    Good luck with your project

A few years ago my friend got a pass at the BKK hospital. Had never been to such a modern hospital myself. Then they can learn from it in the Netherlands!
Here you get per patient per ward if you are lucky 1 nurse per ward. In Thailand you have 4 nurses per patient, and they are all well trained and speak good English.
Want to live in Thailand as soon as possible as soon as my house is sold, and I still have some operations to do
undergo, and I hope also in BKK hospital!

Doesn't always go well and is a private hospital so really commercial. (BKKPattaya)
Always ask for a second opinion in serious cases.

Sorry I did not know this , but my experience with my friends was excellent , my friend was helped very well .
There will indeed be lesser hospitals, where things do not always go as we are used to?
But a few years ago, the health insurance fund here in the Netherlands even sent people for a heart operation in Bangkok, and after the procedure they could recover for another 14 days and then they were even cheaper with the whole lot than here in the Netherlands.
Not sure if they still do that?
