Home » Reader question » Reader question: How can I take a big bus from Sihanoukville (Cambodia) to Pattaya?
Dear readers,
We are in Sihanoukville Cambodia and want to go back to Thailand by bus. I have received information from the travel agencies, but they often contradict each other. Also looked on the internet, but there is not much about it from Sihanoukville to Pattaya.
Only I can't quite figure it out and I'm afraid that if I don't have good information it will take much longer. Is there a big bus connection to Pattaya or do you have to cross the border in a minivan?
If we go on our own, where does the bus to the Thai border stop? Only in Koh Kong or are there also direct buses to the border? Then we cross the border. We don't want to be crammed into a minivan all the way to Pattaya, but rather go with a big bus. Are they available across the border? Or are there minivans that drive to Trat to the bus station. And if so, do large buses go to Pattaya from there? Do they run regularly or only a few times a day?
If we then travel via Trat with a large bus, will the journey take much longer than the 10/12 hours I am counting on?
All information is welcome!
Yours faithfully,
jacqueline
Here you can take some courage…

Taxi to koh kong 3,5 hours 30 dollars and then taxi across the border to pattaya 3,5 hours 2000 bath. Bargain well, you can also make a stopover on Koh Chang, good luck.
Even more experience:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g325573-i9821-k6524685-WARNING_Virak_Buntham_Express_Travel_Tour-Sihanoukville_Sihanoukville_Province.html
You can buy a ticket in a travel agency up to Koh chang da costing 12usd or so and a ticket to
pattaya also, 25 usd with the ticket of 25 usd they take you to the border, with another ticket they drop you off in Koh konh city that is still 10 km from the border and you have to take a motor taxi normally 100 baht per person on 1 moped .
At the border there are minibuses 120 baht to trad bus station, there buses run until 15 pm to Pattaya and to Bangkok the bus is 17 pm, price 400 baht approximately
You can never take the taxi to Koh Kong at 2000 baht, they cannot take gas on that track, there is no station for them alone, I have already done this route 50 times. price at this border in 3500 approx , and at other border aranya sa kaew it is 2400baht .. greetings
I have lived in SIhanoukville for over 6 years and have been to Pattaya by bus many times.
From Sihanoukville to the border you go with a big bus. You can buy a ticket to Pattaya for about $28. It stops in Koh Kong for lunch and then continues to the border. About 1.30 you cross the border and then the misery starts.
In Thailand, transport is with a mini-van and only when it is full does it leave. It is now high season so the waiting times may not be too bad. If you are unlucky you sometimes have to wait for the bus from Phnom Peng to arrive. Can take 2 hours. Even more bad luck if you have to change trains in Trath and wait for that mini van to fill up too. And indeed there is little space for luggage so you are crammed in between the luggage.
An alternative is:
Buy a bus ticket to the border. On the Thai side, take a mini van to Trath bus station. About 1,5 hours drive. From there, take the Aircon bus to Pattaya.
A Taxi from SIhanoukville to the border costs at least $60 and a taxi from the border to Pattaya at least 3500 baht. Rene's post may be about a shared taxi.
Thank you george , here I really have some .1 booking office , (one of 3 different ) told about the same thing , we have a bus ticket to the border costs 8 dollars , are picked up at the gh by a tuk tuk and dropped at the departure point and then for the border , not in koh hong . There we take the minivan to Trat , and thanks to your message , I now know that in Trat there is an airkonbus to pattaya and from there I know how to get to 2 road soi 8
Frans Amsterdam, I had already read these messages on the internet, but I have spoken to several people here who did well, although we still have to be careful, but they did not have a ticket from Sihaouville to Pattaya, but they also did it as George describes it. but thank you for your comment anyway
kind regards, jacqueline
Dear Jacqueline,
George's info is correct as a bus and the prices are really more realistic than all the previous ones I've read. I have made the trip several times and it is completely correct. Since I have to go to BKK, I have not been traveling by land lately, but by plane. It's a bit more expensive, but it's okay. From BKK to PP and there I always have the same taxi that takes me to Sihanoukville for 60USD. That way I'm about 6 hours from BKK to Sihanoukville and it's much less tiring. Ok the mess and rumble at the Koh Kong border post is much easier in the airport. You pay the official price for your visa at the airport and no more 300THB as in Koh Kong.
Lung addie
Dear George and Kurt departing buses to Pattaya only until 15.00pm ? Then it will be tight for us, we should not have a setback at the border
Please 1 more comment
kind regards, jacqueline
You can never get there in time if you take the bus after the border , take a taxi or spend the night in a cheap hotel , there are 10 usd .
Have done that route a lot. By the way, with the minibus at the border of 120 baht that will take you to the bus station, he will first make you transfer again 8 chance out of 10 to another minibus about 8 kilometers away.
It's an agony trip, I've done so much, at the station the last bus after pattaya is 15 pm and this one after bangkok is 17 pm.
There is also a minibus at the station, but it also leaves before 15 p.m.
have a nice trip
George agree with you, I also did this trip in October 2014, but after Pattaya on to Bangkok.
ps George could get in touch with you. Do you have plans to emigrate to Cambodia and specifically to Sihanoukville?
[email protected]
Theo,
I've sent you an email.
Theo , do you know at what time the last bus to pattaya leaves from trat? In case we arrive in trat after 15.00 with a lot of setbacks ? after tomorrow morning 7.30 I can no longer read an answer
b vd and mvg Jacqueline
Buses Cambodia.
Good luck..
http://canbypublications.com/cambodia/buses.htm
Thanks Pieter , but I already knew that , now I would like to know what time the last bus leaves , from Trat Thailand , to Pattaya
Thailand .bvd and mvg Jacqueline
These buses are virtually non-existent - for those who suffer from transfer anxiety. 4 a day and certainly no longer guaranteed that it is a big bus.
It is best to take a bus to BKK and transfer to the VAN BKK bus in/near Cholburi if you really want a big bus.
Alternative is with local=so very slow, bus Rayong-Sattaheep-Pty.
All these buses stop in PTY only along Sukhumvit.
From Sihanoukville to Pattaya it is a very bad system, not recommended, the bus from trat na pattaya stops every time indeed, they would pick everyone up along the track, so a long journey certainly more or 4 hours
