Reader question: Boat trip to watch fireflies
Dear readers,
We will be back in Bangkok in two weeks. Some travel blogs mention a boat trip to watch fireflies, and I'm not talking about the 2-hour trip to the floating market.
Does anyone here know what I can do...
PS we are in a hotel on the river.
Thanks in advance for the tips.
marjo
In almost every street in Bangkok there are one or more agencies that can arrange such trips for you. One even cheaper than the other.
Usually for much better prices than via the internet or in your hotel.
I've seen prices of 10.000-30.000 baht for a 2 hour trip. All for exactly the same thing. Suspect that you can still get a lot cheaper at such an office, but don't be cheated by a street vendor, who can never find you again.
I have been coming to Thailand for more than 20 years and I have never heard of prices of 10000 thb for such a trip.. See previous post. I think more like 2000 and I would find that a lot for a boat trip.
These tours depart from the floating market of Ampawa, duration approximately 2 hours cost baht. But honestly, it's a non-event
The floating market in itself is highly recommended, especially at the weekend when the Bangkokians come down, it is a cozy relaxed typical Thai affair. It is therefore a very popular weekend trip with the Bangkokians. We also go there occasionally on weekends. Once you have visited this market, you should ignore Damnum Saduak

Last year I made Ampawa with several special temples, the floating market and a boat trip from HuaHin. The tour was provided by a Dutch/Thai couple and was very special in itself. On the way, a subterranean cave in Phetchaburi was also visited.
My wife and I had a great day, thanks to Paul our guide..
forgot to say price is 50 baht per person=n
Near Hua Hin (Sam Roi Yot, and Kaeng Krachan lake) 600 thb BY BOAT.
So NOT per man for an hour trip.
100 thb per man per hour is therefore a fair price.
Mss in BKK a little more but I wouldn't know why.
We made this trip once from Amphawa, if we have seen ten fireflies it is a lot. I believe the best time is between May and October. A boat trip costs about 500 thb, it depends how many people in a boat. We had rented a boat with the four of us (more expensive) and had dinner at a restaurant on the river. During the weekend it is very busy in Amphawa, so better on one or more weekdays.
Maybe you mean this boat trip.
Unfortunately, the information is already 6 years old, but at least it gives some clues.

These trips seem to be (co-)organized by Bangkok Tree House, an eco-friendly accommodation.
Type in Fireflies in the search field and you will see all the reviews that report the fireflies.
