Reader question: Good authentic Thai restaurant in Amsterdam
Dear readers,
We will soon go shopping in Amsterdam for a day. Now we are looking for an authentic Thai restaurant (rather not one of those trendy places they call Thai, but where ordinary Dutch people are in the kitchen).
We already know Bird on the Zeedijk, we want to try something different.
Thanks in advance,
Greetings,
Ellen
Na Siam, in the Kerkstraat I highly recommend. Small & great! Reservation recommended. Ad.
Royal Thai. Lange Leidsedwarsstraat 170 Amsterdam. Cozy and tasty food with friendly service.
Maesomjai in Koningstraat, open from 12 noon to 20.00 p.m.
Khong kha
Rhine Street
my favorite when I still lived around the corner on the Kennedylaan! Always nice to my father when he came over from Thailand.
Krua Thai Classic, Staalstraat. My absolute favourite.
When I'm in the Netherlands I always eat at;
Ceintuurbaan 210, 1072 GD Amsterdam
thaideum.nl
020 379 0705
These are real Thai's with real Thai's food.
Greetings Nico
Unfortunately, the owner has sold that business and there is now a donner business or something, she only has the restaurant on the Albert Cuyp left.
Regards,
Lex K.
Bird is indeed well known and again voted the best Thai this year.
I also really like “Maesomjai” in Koningstraat. Small scale but I like it.
It's always busy.
Success!
At Bird you get Thai food prepared in a Western style.
My Thai wife and I have eaten here a few times and each time my wife asked if her food could be made spicy (hot). This never worked out. We don't go there anymore.
By the way, I get the best Thai food at home.
Hi Ellen,
Here are the top rated Thai restaurants. https://www.tripadvisor.nl/Restaurants-g188590-c39-Amsterdam_North_Holland_Province.html
Assume you'll figure it out 🙂
Personally I find Billy Thai and Ko Chang very cozy and certainly good food.
Well good luck.
Regards, Steve
http://www.rakang.nl/ it's really great!!
Little Thai Prince on the Zeedijk is also great.
If you already know Bird and you want something different, here are some tips.
Rakang has a good reputation.
Little Thai Prince on the seawall is also nice, and very cozy / small.
Opposite the Thai-shop (Thai Toko, the only one in Amsterdam, nice to walk in) is Me Naan Naan.
Right next to it is Mea Som Jaj
If these restaurants have a Thai cook, and also have a run of Thai people!, and are therefore just good.
In addition to traditional cuisine, Rakang also often has surprising dishes.
Also take a look at Songkran at 86 Marnixstraat.
This business is run by Bob and Ied. In addition to the delicious authentic meals, this cozy restaurant has a very good extensive wine list, something you don't often find in a Thai restaurant.
Johannes van Dam rated the food here with an 8.5
