Reader question: Adoption Thai girl
Dear readers,
My wife and I have been living in Thailand for 16 years, both of us have Dutch nationality. Now we have adopted a girl. The adoption is complete and all documents are in order. We have translated and legalized all documents at the Ministry of Foreign affairs in Chiangmai.
Our goal is to apply for a Dutch passport for our daughter: both parents are Dutch and then it is so easy if our daughter also has a Dutch passport.
However, there is now a problem that Thailand only has a weak adoption, this adoption must be converted to Dutch law, so called a strong adoption. Although Thailand has signed the adoption convention in The Hague, this document is required to apply for a passport for our daughter.
Now our question is whether anyone has experienced the same thing and what steps have been taken?

If one of the natural parents is still alive, the adoption is considered weak.
Only the court remains.

Think this question can best be answered by the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok who can advise how to convert a weak into a strong adoption and what conditions there are for applying for a Dutch passport for adoption of a child with Thai nationality. Child is not registered as born from Dutch mother or conceived/accepted by Dutch father who acknowledges paternity via declaration of fruit legalized by Embassy and/or inclusion in birth certificate
Have had a “soft” adoption.
Unfortunately, no possibility as a corridor but the judge.
This is also possible if you have deregistered, according to a lawyer in the Netherlands.
The court in Alkmaar was advised to me because of my familiarity with the matter.

is this adoption performed by the central child adoption in bangkok. if so, you also received a statement that this adoption was carried out in accordance with the Hague Convention. with this statement you can have the municipality convert the weak to strong adoption when you return to Dutch.
“My” adoption was completely “done” by “Bangkok”.
After the verdict of the council, the adoption has been officially included in the civil administration in the nearest Ket in Bangkok.
All documents have been translated and legalized according to the requirements.
The whole submitted to the Dutch Embassy for the application of the Dutch passport.
Denied, reason one of the natural parents is still alive.
Therefore a soft adoption.
Advice was a course but the judge.

Never heard of a statement following “The Hague”.

So think the crux is being alive AND known, of one or both natural parents.

So I am trying to convert my weak adoption from Thailand I have been in contact with a lawyer in Zwolle and he says that he can handle my case if I am registered in the Netherlands, luckily I read earlier in this discussion that this is not necessary …
I have indeed arranged the adoption through the Board of Child Adoption in Bangkok and have translated and legalized all official documents, is your experience that you have simply converted the adoption to a strong adoption with these documents at the municipality?
