Volunteers wanted for retirement research
Michael Haan of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam is an occupational therapist and is currently working on a thesis as part of his European Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. He is researching the experiences of retirement and immigration to Thailand and is reaching out to retirees living in Thailand to learn about their experiences.
Background
Retirement can be seen as a new phase of life, in which one has to adapt to new circumstances. There is a connection between what we do every day, how healthy we feel and how we experience our well-being.
Current social developments indicate that more pensioners will live outside the Netherlands in the future. However, little is known about how people adapt to a new country, culture and everything that comes with it during retirement.
Reviews
Michael is doing the research to learn more about this and your experiences can be of great value to that end.
Are you retired and currently living in Thailand? You can probably contribute to a better understanding of this phase of life by sharing your experiences.
Participate
Michael seeks contact with people, who
- Retired less than 10 years ago
- be 50 years or older
- Living in Thailand
What is expected of you?
The study participants will be interviewed in a conversation of up to 90 minutes at a convenient time and location for the participant (in Thailand)
The interview in Thailand will mainly be about the period when people retired and started living in Thailand. The results will provide insight into the experiences of this group of people and may contribute to better prevention of health problems associated with all the challenges associated with migration and retirement.
The participants remain anonymous, but can indicate whether and how they want to be kept informed about the results.

I am 83 and have just decided to leave my Thai wife after 14 years of which 11 years of marriage. Married in the Netherlands and officially retired under the Dutch law in 2002, but worked in the Netherlands until 2019 as a taxi driver in Amsterdam. I now live but am looking for a new place of residence in Thailand. I do not fully meet the target group but still want to do respond.
Please read carefully Gerrit. At the bottom of the article is how you can respond.

The email address [email protected] is really good, lung addie,
I got an email from him a few hours ago.
Keep trying!
.
Tried again today. Same result as yesterday…. As I see here I am not the only one. I get this message:
There was an error sending email. The mail server replied:
5.1.3 The recipient address is not a valid RFC-5321
553 5.1.3 address. q16sm19448720pfs.16 – gsmtp.
Check the message recipient'[email protected].' and try again.
@Lung addie: the reporter becomes like '[email protected].' indicated
Try it with the same address, but without that last dot after nl, so
[email protected]
Dear Gringo,
it has been successful in the meantime. I had made a 'copy-paste' of the announced address. This morning I saw for myself that it is not normal for there to be another .nl after .nl. stands. I left that out and then the mail was gone.
Anyway thanks for tip.
regards
what do you mean by this message?
I have sent a response and have not received a message that it has not arrived.
I would like to participate but only if Mr. Michael comes to my house, can therefore show what retirement in Thailand can be like, with all the ups and downs.
Only I have been retired for more than 10 years, the vast majority of which at my own expense.

It has happened before that information about the elderly is requested, whether or not they are permanent residents
Thailand. You don't know what will be done with that information or perhaps passed on to the authorities
who have an interest in it. Be alert and don't expose yourself completely.
Maybe an undercover agent from the Dutch tax authorities or the SVB hahahaha.
Unfortunately for them, I have nothing to hide.
