We – 70 plus and 70 minus – have forgotten something

Hello Thailand blog readers,

Yes it sounds weird, but it is true. We forgot something.

In our previous article – www.thailandblog.nl/steden/pattaya-70-en-70-min/ – we kind of said goodbye to Thailand after 13 years and a bit of Thailandblog (as far as writing was concerned). But here I am again. From the Netherlands where the weather is unexpectedly good.

We came home in January from our last trip to Thailand, at least that's what it looked like. We agreed ourselves. I did add the restriction that we wouldn't do wintering anymore, but maybe one day.... a short vacation.

When we came home and after a few months of talking again, we discovered that we had actually been to many places, but never to Hua Hin. The place that is praised by many Blog readers. Yes, and if you think about it carefully, it suddenly starts to tickle and you start surfing and look for opportunities to go anyway. Not as a hibernation, but a maximum of 2 months or so.

Yes, (Peter) Hua Hin. You wrote a lot of nice things about that and actually lost your heart. Well, we want to see that beautiful city.

Only now we are again as ignorant as the tourist who goes somewhere for the first time. Okay we know Thailand, we know the customs and customs, we know something about the language, we know the Thai, we know the Thai (good) kitchen, etc. , etc. but Hua Hin we know nothing about that.

Of course, we will definitely explore Hua Hin when we go. Even then I will try to write a few pieces for the Blog. We are thinking of going mid December/mid January. Then we can celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary and my 70th birthday (together) (haha) Then it will be the 70s, instead of 70 plus and 70 min. But that only indicates how long we're on earth, not how we feel because it's a lot younger.

We already have some apartments and or hotels or condos on sight. We would like to go to Hua Hin Hillside, soi Hua Hin 114 Baan Nong Kae, Preachuabkirikhan. But we really don't know yet. This hotel is a bit outside the city, but nice. We still want to rent a motorbike so we can move. Who knows!

Furthermore, we have to orient ourselves on what Hua Hin can bring us. We don't even know if there are taxi vans in Hua Hin as well as in Pattaya. I'm also still looking for a stretch of beach with nice sunbeds and umbrellas, just like on my trusted Dong tan Beach in Pattaya. It's going to be, we think, weird and fun.

For those who have nice ideas for us, or who still know a nice hotel or apartment up to approx. 20.000 bath per month, let us know. Balcony is a requirement as well as a 7-Eleven or Familiemarket on the corner.

The moral of the story; you say goodbye with a good feeling, but as soon as you get home you get goosebumps again. You don't just say goodbye to your friends and your second homeland (that's how it feels). So everyone who gets the chance to see as much as possible in Thailand. Just do it. Well maybe see you in Hua Hin.

    Dear Ruud.
My advice about the beach, don't go close to the Hilton, because of dangerous rocks in the sea at that place.

A few kilometers further south you have Ta Kiab .
You are on a moped, so a 10-minute drive should not be a problem.
I can't give advice for hotels, that's a personal taste.

Dear Ruud, if you are used to Pattaya, you may find Hua Hin too quiet. For me, that's the charm. In Hua Hin it is still manageable and small-scale.
As Pim already mentioned, it is best to drive towards Khao Takiab for a beautiful beach. Just in front of this monkey mountain with the large Buddha statue (can't be missed) you can rent a sun lounger with a parasol cheaply.

I have read your opinion about Hua Hin several times. Maybe that's what convinced me, Peter.
And that “too quiet” will not be so bad. After all these years of Pattaya, we are ready for that. And I'd love to take your beach top with me. We are not that far from there. We have a beautiful apartment for a great price.
Just look for a good motorbike with extra insurance if possible and a telephone number of a taxi driver who can drive us for about 1500 bath (safely to Hua Hin). (our seagulls are very busy) who oh who??

    Forget for a moment.
Through Hua hin, taxi vans run throughout the city for 10 Baht.
    Decent drivers drive those .

The Nilawan guesthouse: www.nilawanguesthouse.com is highly recommended. Small-scale, super, super clean, friendly people, close to the beautiful beach, the market, the market village, shops around the corner and the taxi buses also around the corner. And it only costs 1250 baht per night per room including breakfast and for this it is also kept clean daily.
    They also rent motorbikes.
We have enjoyed it a few times. Nice and central and yet quiet.
    Good luck and best regards

Hua Hin sports villa might be something for you, it is located near the sea and not too far from the center.

      René,
Have you ever seen a site where houses were for sale and it was there.
I believe it is interesting. Do you know where to find the website with rooms on it and I don't mean the simple website with two photos of rooms. It must be there, but I can't find it
      Thanks anyway

    Hello Ruud,
We visited Hua Hin twice in one day with the slow train from Cha Am, which was a nice experience! Hua Hin has a beautiful large beach and a super modern shopping center where everything is for sale. In Hua Hin there is everything a person could need.
We stayed 1 month in Cha Am approx. 25 km. north of Hua Hin, we had a great time there. Rented a nice house 4 minutes walk from the beach. Cha Am is a lot smaller than Hua Hin and more intimate. If you stay in Hua Hin, we can definitely recommend that you also visit Cha Am.
Next year we will go to Cha Am again and then for 2 months. We will definitely visit Hua Hin again.
Have a great time together in Hua Hin.

Isn't it wonderful, when you've lost your heart in Thailand you always have to go back to look for it haha! Hua Hin, already 16 years old and familiar to me. So I'm not really objective. There is talk of a quieter environment. I personally find (not disturbingly) that Hua Hin has changed a lot over the years and has become a lot busier. There is a lot to do in and around Hua Hin and in the center you can choose a fairly quiet area and the busier entertainment area, the latter is not my preference. I have no comparison material with Pattaya because I was there once and never wanted to go there again, but that has to do with personal preference! It is of course a royal place and you will notice that in relation to the prices. Everything here is slightly more expensive than in Bangkok, but that is of course also relative in Thailand. The most beautiful beach is indeed the aforementioned Khao Takieb. And come along on the Suam Pearl boat to relax and have a chance of spotting the dolphin! Go to the CICADA market at the weekend and go to PLEARNWAN during the week in Hua Hin! Go enjoy!

Nice, but where is your hotel ???? Maybe interesting. You are a connoisseur

We have now been to Hua Hin 3 times for a month and plan to go again next year. We stay in guesthouse Nilawan. Unfortunately, an early booking is necessary here, because most guests have booked a room for a long time years in advance. This indicates that it is a good address. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated, but for 1250 bath per night you cannot expect extra luxury. The staff is friendly and helpful. The kitchen is also good.
Nilawan is located near the beach and the main road where the vans and taxis run. On the beach you can rent chairs + umbrella. Prices are different, Seven Eleven and the Family Market are just around the corner on the main road. You also have the Market Village nearby, an indoor shopping center with bank branches, among other things.
There are more such guesthouses in the area, so take a look on the Internet.

Huahin is small-scale and luckily no Russian explosion yet Pattaya has finished for us.
