I made a video that I would like to show to the blog visitors. It tells the story of the construction of a haystack at the neighbors last December. It is a film without music, very simple and sober, as the Isaan usually is.

I want to show how slowly, phlegmatically perhaps, with almost disregard for the progress of time, life is lived here. The relaxed atmosphere, the fun and the peace of building something together. Very different from the usual hectic pace of Pattaya or other famous places in Thailand. And maybe it's a good distraction for all those people who, rightly or wrongly, are very concerned about the consequences of Corona on their travel plans to Thailand.

It may be a very boring video and it is about nothing, just like the text at the very end, is also about nothing… But that is what makes it worthwhile for me, and I would like to hear from others, if they manage to watch until the end, what they think, it takes 21 minutes.

I also find the different perception of time interesting. Do the workers also eat and drink together afterwards? The private builder takes care of that. If it is a construction contract for a public administration, e.g. municipality, hospital or school, the contractor will provide food and drink.
This is the case here in the northern Thai village where we live.
The cooperation between different groups of "land"-"builders", including the lending of "specialists" between the groups themselves, is also special. A “labour market” that we no longer know in the West.

Truly one of the most beautiful videos seen here on Thailand blog, reminds me of Bert Haanstra, thank you, enjoyed it very much.

I thought it was a very nice video, which showed how people in the Isaan are built with simple means and without time pressure.

    Hi,
Yes, a wonderful movie for me to watch as well.
In the meantime I fell asleep, woke up (probably a dog bark or a fly in my nose) and looked further. Like I was there on the spot.
    This is wonderfully therapeutic
    My gratitude,
    Do

What a nice video! I have been living in Thailand for over twelve years now in the countryside in the province of Uttaradit, but I have also experienced that way of building and that relaxed atmosphere here. I have regularly been amazed at how very useful results were achieved with simple means.

Those thick wooden beams are kept as “gold bars”.
Formerly widely used in house construction.
    Today all concrete posts.
And place the roof purlins of iron instead of wood, and treated with red red on the weld.

Beautiful reality film of labor in the countryside.
No work pressure, stress, working conditions.
A lot is possible with simple tools
Takes a little longer but it is also warm.
Thanks to hourly money, it still yields something.
    Homesickness.

I think it's more straw than hay here.
