This is a hospital of the Navy and I had only heard good stories about it, but it could be very busy.

Every five years I have a colonoscopy (exploratory examination of the intestine) performed. My choice fell on the Sirikit hospital and together with my Thai wife I went on February 6th. We arrived at the hospital at 7 o'clock in the morning to get a follow-up number. Gentlemen, ladies, doctors start at 9:XNUMX am.

We were directed to a large hall, which, despite the early hour, was packed with people. We were lucky enough to get a seat. Then, as expected, the long wait began. At 12 o'clock it was not our turn yet and there was a break until 13.00, so we just got a cup of coffee and ate a sandwich. At 14.00:13 pm it was our turn. I discussed my previously submitted file with the doctor on duty, who referred me to another room to make an appointment with the doctor who would perform the colonoscopy. On February 8.30 we had to come back at XNUMX am.

That day we were already there at 8 o'clock and were looking at a closed door of the doctor's room. At 9:11 no one. On inquiry we heard that the doctor was still busy with other patients. At 7am the door was still closed. Finally we were referred to another doctor and we made an appointment for a colonoscopy for March XNUMXth.

On March 2, we were called by the hospital that the appointment could not go ahead, because the doctor would be abroad (didn't they know that on February 13?). The appointment was moved to April 6.

Before the colonoscopy can take place, you must start a diet 5 days in advance (no vegetables, fruit, coffee or tea, only white rice, chicken and eggs, and you must take a laxative every day). Done from April 1 and then the hospital called on April 4. Unfortunately, the doctor made a mistake with the schedule, because April 6 is a Thai holiday and then the hospital staff have a day off (I knew that banks and immigration are closed on such days, but a hospital? So don't get a heart attack on a Thai holiday).

I was informed that I would be able to go on May 18th. I almost exploded. Been on a diet and medication for 3 days and then casually say that the hospital will be closed on April 6th. Didn't they know that before?

I therefore informed them that I would not have a colonoscopy performed in the Sirikit hospital, as I no longer had any confidence in the doctor in question. As it turns out, the hospital was open as usual on April 6, just like the banks. So it was just another excuse from this doctor.

Back to square one after 3 months. In any case, I will never go to Sirikit hospital again.

I still think the hospital acted decently. You will be informed in time that the doctor has no time for you. You could also have been seated in front of a closed door just like the first time. Referring to another doctor if you are still there is a sign that you have been noticed. And to channel any irritations that may have arisen. It seems that people are paying attention to you. And of course to generate some income. But of course there can be no question of quality patient care.

    But dear man,
you should have known in advance that this is the normal course of events in a government hospital.
I am not surprised by this and have never seen it any different when visiting friends or family.
The last time also a crying daughter-in-law who had to be sober all day and a doctor who called it quits at 17 pm.
I wish you all the luck.

For me this is the most important part of your argument: Every five years I have a colonoscopy (exploratory examination of the intestine) performed.

You indicate yourself that there is no urgency at all, every 5 years, and without a referral from a doctor, you ask about it yourself. (Or even with referral, it remains a routine check)

    In combination with:

    – We were directed to a large hall, which, despite the early hour, was packed with people.

    – It is a naval hospital, you can consider it as a state hospital staffed with military personnel.

    – and the specialist was exactly busy

This leads me to conclude that you actually have no priority, no medical need, just control.

No priority also means that anyone who has a referral from a doctor will have priority over you. Because the room was already full, there will probably be a few candidates for your specialism. And you may guess how many poor Thais request an investigation on their own initiative, it will be very close to zero.

Even on the day of the examination, if someone is brought in with a higher priority, your appointment can still be rescheduled.

Ditto for public holidays, the hospital is open for urgent cases, not for a routine check-up.

Before the holiday, the first registration may have overlooked the fact that it is only a routine check.

If you want to be treated as an “important” examination at your own request for a routine check-up, it is better to go to a private hospital such as Bangkok Hospital XYZ.

The costs themselves will be higher.

But you make an appointment and after 3 months after many rescheduling appointments still nothing. No words for it, but it is outrageous, in my opinion, the submitter is quite right with his complaint.

See, that's the risk of going to a cheap state hospital. The only advantage you have there is that it is slightly cheaper; Of course you have to take into account the disadvantages.

And as you say, it can be very busy. Unfortunately, you had to experience that yourself.

What's next now? No more Sirikit hospital. Hopefully you're not going to another state hospital now. Choose a decent private hospital, you don't have all that misery there.

    Hi Ruud,

Yes, I know the problem and you know my experiences with the same hospital and also discuss a good solution with you.

If you want you can send your phone number to [email protected], please add your name Ruud.

Know a good doctor for you and you only have to go on a diet for 3 days and cheap but above all .... good and affordable.

Do it yourself every year now because of previous colon cancer and bowel surgery. Anyway I lost my virginity and it now hurts less or less annoying than the first time. And luckily cancer is still gone. And that snake in your body even you get used to that a bit.

    Happy to help.

    Greetings strength

    Peter.

I'm going to respond with my own opening statement as well. The above commenters are right about your own appointment. May I ask what costs you would have been charged for a successful audit? And didn't you have to stay in the hospital overnight because of the anesthesia?
My own experience: Start in the BPH. In December 2022 I didn't feel well, sometimes nauseous, didn't feel like eating, didn't feel like doing anything. So reason for action. At the beginning of January 2023 to the Bangkok Pattaya hospital where I was referred to this special department. Intake interview with the specialist who, after an x-ray, advised an eye examination from above and below. cost 8,500 baht for this appointment. Made an appointment for the surgery. Arrive at 08.00am, helped at 16.30:10.00pm and wake up at the ISU. Stomach ulcer removed, the doctor knew me at 101,000 am (next day) and discovered a bowel problem of which a sample was taken and sent to the lab. Cost 45,000 Baht. A few days later, the result is a growth: developing cancer. CT scan should provide more clarity. The notification was made to me by the treating doctor by forwarding an email from the lab with a written advice to contact a surgeon in the BPH. Indeed, an advice CT scan costs approx. 1,220 Baht. + the note of this advice 450,000 baht. The operation itself is estimated at 27,000 baht. Thank You for these unpleasant communications. Completely disillusioned, I left the Famous BPH and sought refuge in a friendlier hospital: the Memorial, in the heart of Pattaya. I was helped without any problems. Ct scan + x-ray 2 baht and immediate treatment. Indeed, a tumor has been detected and now also the location has been determined. Surgery planned immediately (in 10 weeks) and surgery performed. 202,500 days in hospital and whistling home. All in all costs 2 Baht. The reader will understand that I wholeheartedly recommend the Memorial. Friendly adequate treatment and care and a kitchen with dozens of choices (payment per item) in contrast where you are offered 500 set menus for a price of 500 baht per meal. !,XNUMX baht even a good restaurant is cheaper,

I can only assure that the SiriKit hospital works perfectly, waiting times yes, but I'll take this on board
It seems that if the farang does not get more or if the predecessors are first allowed on a visitation, people are in a hurry.
Not neuten they say with us and go to Bangkok hospital.

Years ago also had this here in SUT near Korat.
    University hospital

    Pre-diagnosis Abdominal and pelvic pain.

Let's take a look at Mister William through the top and bottom.
Waiting for them to have a full day with clients. [two A three weeks 10 pieces]
One day at home on the thin soup, two days in the hospital, one day on the soup and three liters of laxatives, second day of treatment sober
Room for 10 people for a night's sleep.

Two graduate doctors, one behind the PC and one with the six students who were allowed to do the project.
Was the last to go since I had expressed my great fear, the PC control doctor stood next to me waking up with the statement, Everything okay Mr. William it's a bacteria in the stomach, Helicobacter pylori infection

Going home a few hours later, picking up medicines a few days later, were finished, wasn't the only one.
Hospital paid by AIA something like 26000 Baht, pills I could pay 7000 Baht myself.

It will be ten years ago when we visit again in a year and a half.
Although five years is recommended for several problems.

Saint Mary was twice as expensive, Bangkok Hospital was even more expensive.
    Shopping pays off, that's right.

    Hi Ruud,

I have had such an examination done twice in the Netherlands, and only had to take a laxative the night before and in the early morning.

Some polyps have been removed, and don't have to come back in 5 years, that will happen here in Thailand, I wonder what the bill would have been. Personally, I think I will opt for a private hospital in 2026.

I have been using Srinagarindra University Hospital in Khon Kaen for years and never have to wait. As everywhere in Thailand you pay a little bit more and get excellent service. We have the phone number of one of the employees there. Arranged right the first time. He makes the appointment and ensures that we are really helped at that time. He also arranges a parking space for our car as the parking lot is often full. The entire service costs 200 Baht per visit.

Then it is heaven if you can go to Bangkok Hospital.

    • fred says up

Where they can help you it's always heaven. We always find a good doctor and only the one who succeeded in helping you. Medicine is not an exact science. Medical blunders happen everywhere as do misdiagnoses. A wrong diagnosis in a Belgian university hospital almost cost my sister her life. You have to be especially lucky.

You will only be part of the government, or have some function in it.
Or being a member of the royal house, then all stops are open, think.
Room(s) are reserved and the -best- doctors are ready.
And the bill….. I just want to say….It must be everywhere, also in the Netherlands.

I have exactly the same experience at Sirikit Hospital, albeit for a different condition
    i.e. glaucoma.
Unbelievable that there is already a long line at 6am to get serial numbers at 7am before the hospital starts at 9am.
Making an appointment is not possible.
And it's not your turn at 12 o'clock.
It does give you the opportunity to observe everything and soon conclude that modern times have not yet penetrated here.
Everything looks distant, clumsy, amateurish and old-fashioned.
The medical equipment also looks dated.
    It's all a sadness.
But something is being done about that: in the central hall a few brothers and sisters who apparently have nothing to do are toiling terribly out of tune karaoke songs that hurt your ears.
    In a hospital!
