Reader Submission: More International Collaboration?
Mark Rutte wishes more international cooperation. Then start with this problem. In 2017, The Hague instructed embassies worldwide to no longer confirm income such as foreign pensions.
Strange that I never read this in the newspapers that I read daily. Extra sour since Belgian pensions are stated on a document in the Dutch language. It must come from the Dutch embassy, given my nationality. The Belgian embassy wanted to be of service, but did not accept it.
So residence, through proof of sufficient income, is no longer possible. Engaging a lawyer has 3 months of my AOW benefit
extra cost.
I advocate a return to the old arrangement to make it easier to stay in a country like Thailand.

Via the website: https://www.nederlandwereldwijd.nl/landen/thailand/wonen-en-werken/visumondersteuningsbrief is to apply for an income statement.
Ignace makes 2 fallacies: firstly, he assumes that the embassy confirms his income. That is not the case. The embassy only helps with a statement that a monthly income is received from the Netherlands. The applicant is personally responsible for filling in the amount of that income, and for demonstrating it with documentary evidence.
Mark Rutte never intended that his speech at the General Assembly of the UN should relate to procedures such as those set up by the Thai Immigration.
And indeed: a pity about 3 months old age pension funds with which a lawyer was unnecessarily engaged.
International cooperation ? Try merging various services of EU embassies in a specific country.
Well, as a mere mortal you don't have to expect anything from this government anyway, this government is there for big capital and for itself, so that all ministers will soon have a well-paid job in the business community again.
Not so gloomy, we have generally been lucky in NL with the various governments. To govern is to look ahead, it is important to take measures now. Otherwise we will soon be howling with the wolves in the forest, if only we had........
And yes, my pension has also been standing still for a long time and has steadily declined in terms of spending capacity. But with short-term thinking we may be better off, but our children / grandchildren are certainly not. Chockdee Khab, have another while you can. Regards Paul
Receiving state pension abroad, the government cannot stop it
they would like to do.
If AOW is spent in the Netherlands,
a large part of the AOW will be returned to the state treasury
for example by paying VAT on products etc. that you purchase in the Netherlands with your AOW benefit.
So don't expect them to make it easy for you.
Not now and maybe even less in the future.
gr Pete
I agree with Rob this cabinet makes a mess for the ordinary.
Look at the idiotic proposal to abolish the dividend tax costs 2 billion euros that must be paid by us indirectly.
The only one who benefits from this is the foreign tax authorities.
It would be better to increase them to 25% as in Germany.
The money could be better spent by increasing the state pension and spending it on healthcare.
I hope the 1st chamber rejects the proposal (I'm afraid that won't happen)
Furthermore, one may wonder what the members of parliament sit for just for themselves and the party or for the people.
The coalition parties in the 2nd chamber will vote in favor otherwise the cabinet will die.
With the VAT increase, the same sheet and suit.
The politicians are completely unreliable (see Kok's penny was a temporary measure but never reversed)
Ben
Kok's quarter (1991) was less than a quarter, it was never said at the time that it would be a temporary measure, in 2001 and 2001 excise duties on petrol and diesel were reduced, so that that quarter was fully compensated for diesel, partly for petrol and from that lesser elevation roads were built.
Politicians in the Netherlands are reasonably reliable, in some other countries that is much less.
