I do not know if this is already known, but I would like to mention that you cannot just do a visa run the same day.

I went to the border last Sunday (09 September) because of a visa run. Went to the Aranyaprathet – Poi Pet border crossing for that.

I wanted to get an entry and exit stamp the same day, but that is no longer possible. You are required to stay 1 night. I did try but the Thai sent me back. You can enter tomorrow morning at 6 am, but you also had to change the exit stamp. Was shown canceled on the old date 09-09, cost 1000 baht.

Depends on what visa you have.
I have a NON IMM O and have been able to do that until now

Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper for you to request an extension with the non 'o' you have?

I thought it was common knowledge among “border runners” that the Aranyaprathet – Poi Pet border post can be difficult. (An additional warning wouldn't hurt, of course)
This has been going on for some time now. Especially when it concerns a new “Visa Exemption” or a METV.
    I even caught it at a Non-IMM.
Guess it also depends on the IMO you're going to find there. Shouldn't be, but yeah....

If at all possible, try to avoid Aranyaprathet – Poi Pet for a “border run”, or take into account a day stay.

You will not normally encounter this problem at other border posts.
So don't assume that this is a new rule that will be applied at every border post.

    Tip:
It is better to speak of a:
    – “Borderrun” , when someone briefly crosses the border and immediately returns, in order to obtain/activate a new stay period
    – “Visa run” if you actually apply for a new visa at an embassy/consulate. This will certainly take more than one day.
This may also be clearer to readers.

As a supplement. At the border with Malaysia they sometimes want to make things difficult with a “border run” on the same day.

        Hi Ronnie,

Don't know which border crossing you take, but I always go at Pedang Basar.
My in-laws live in Hat Yai and then it is only an hour's drive.
It is quite busy at the weekend, but during the week you can be back in 30 minutes.
There are "scooterboys" who drive you around TH immigration, wait for you outside and drive you around to Malaysia Immigration and back to TH immigration. All that for 100 Thb.

I don't do border runs anymore.
When I did it in the past, my favorite was Phu Nam Ron/Htee Khee near Kanchanaburi. A quiet border crossing between Thailand and Myanmar.
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phu_Nam_Ron

As far as Malaysia is concerned, it is just a general warning that people may want to make things difficult at certain border crossings. At least, I hear that regularly, so… as a “Borderrunner” it's best to take it into account.
Of course, that does not mean that this will always be the case, or that this will be the case at every border crossing.
A lot will depend on which IMO is there and how you carry out the “border run”, i.e. with Visa Exemption, METV, Non-IMM,…. and what your travel history is. Especially with “Visa Exemption”.

Cheaper maybe, but easier I doubt.
With a NON O IMM based on marriage you still have to provide a few things.
At IMM on Chaeng Wattana (BKK) it is always quite busy.

On the other hand, I regularly fly to my old father in NL and then just as easily apply for my visa in The Hague at the TH embassy. Do I always and never have problems, or extra things, etc.

Maybe when he's gone things will change.

I think it's not too bad in Chaeng Wattana.
Indeed, many people, but not all of them come for an extension and they are also there with several to process your application.

Although married, I am opting for an extension on the basis of “retirement”. It is indeed simpler.
In at 0900. Get a number for an extension request and at 1030 I had my annual extension.
I had a copy of the new extension made at a shop, got a new number to apply for re-entry and I was back outside before the afternoon break.

All in all I think it's quite acceptable.

But hey, this was for information.

        I've said it before.
Whether it is a visa or an extension, everyone should do what feels best for them.
