I was previously notified that my flights BRU – BKK on 1/5/20 and back on 16/5/20 were canceled. I now receive a clear and polite email that I can rebook for free until 31/12/2021.

I had only paid 538 EUR so I am allowed to rebook on the low season dates very clearly indicated in the email from Thai Airways, in total from 1/9/20 to 31/12/21 that is during 13 months in that period of 17 months. Thank you Thai Airways!

For comparison:

  • my Thai girlfriend has been here in BE since 14/3/2020 with Emirates and can't go back after two weeks of vacation, only being able to fill in a voucher on their website for the time being.
  • we had booked a flight with Alitalia for a city trip to Rome. No answer from Alitalia yet and I don't expect that either because they may be bankrupt.

Hopefully they don't go bankrupt in the meantime and you lost your money, I was notified to cancel and get a full refund which I did

Which society? So far there is only 1 airline that actually reimbursed, about others I only hear about vouchers and moving the flight dates. To compare Thai Airways with Emirates seems to me to be the other way around because Thai Airways has long been very loss-making and I wonder if they will soon go bankrupt because the Thai government cannot help either because Thailand's economy is already shrinking a lot due to reduced exports and imports and no tourists and the latter is disadvantageous for Thais.

Dear Ger-Korat, That is not entirely correct because there are indeed more companies that pay back.
Upon inquiry to Bangkok Airways and Qatar Airways, I received a neat email from both that all the money already paid for my tickets will be refunded.
I received it immediately from Bangkok Airways, and from Qatar Airways I received a polite message from Qatar Airways to be patient.

Yes Dre, me too. But after 1,5 months still no refund. E-mailed and answer is: According to our regulations (see website) we will refund within 180 days. Please ? So that is 6 months. So I don't think their arrangement is that "good".

Thai Airways will start flights from the beginning of July 3 times a week. Bkk-Brussels-Bkk

      Hi albert,

Where do you get this information from?
I will (hopefully) fly from Copenhagen to Bangkok in mid-July.
I wonder if they also fly from Copenhagen

      Thanks

      Mike

I also have booking with thai,
it is somewhat difficult to reach thai in Brussels as it is only possible by mail.
I did receive an acknowledgment of receipt of my mail immediately.
have to wait about 3 weeks for an answer and they promise me that they will rebook my trip (free of charge) before the end of the year as I proposed and take over dates correctly
it does take some time but they are correct

There is a snag, however. You must remain in the same ticket class as the initial booking. By reducing the number of flights, this is not obvious and there is the possibility that an upgrade will be charged.

I had tickets for departure SATURDAY August 1 and they have now been transferred to SUNDAY August 2 same seats (I'm still waiting for an explanation) the return journey has not changed with Thai.
Now I understand why: well they only fly three times a week now!
It is still a long way, but when Thailand opens again and if we are not obliged to be quarantined in Bangkok on arrival, then I will travel, otherwise I can still get paid, they have confirmed me by email, I am curious.

    Hi,
We booked BRU-BKK with Qatar on 7/7/20. We have requested information from the company but receive different information about the telephone and Messenger. Does anyone have experience with the rebooking/travel voucher at Qatar and more specifically about its validity? Voucher valid for 1 year, does this mean booking within the year or traveling within the year? Thank you in advance. Kind regards, Valérie Holemans

  5. Ruud says up

It can always be better if you don't take a voucher. Below is the Emirates scheme.

You can choose to keep your ticket and we'll extend its validity to 24 months from the date of your original booking. The fare amount you paid for your original booking will be accepted for any flight to the same destination/region* at any time with no fees during this period.

The same arrangement has Etihad Airways. Does anyone have experience with rebooking Bangkok-Brussels at Etihad?

Together we (Thai woman and Dutch man) had a booking with Turkish airlines on April 23 to Brussels via Istanbul.
On April 2 already reported that the flight has been cancelled. Have officially had the following choices back on April 19th.
    1. money back,
    2. convert to priority until April 22, 2021.
    3. possible other destination (for us dusseldorf, cologne bonn or amsterdam) without additional costs.

Put business on hold until the end of lock down in Thailand and the Netherlands.

You can get a refund for a REFUND for a partially operated flight via the THAI AIRWAYS site. We had our flights (BRU-BKK/BKK-AKL/AKL-BKK and BKK-BRU) on 1 e-ticket.
If you fill in that online form, you must do so per flight and per person. If you fill in the first time, you must include the e-ticket number and press SUBMIT. If you also want to send the form for the next flight or for my partner, that is no longer possible with that e-ticket. Then just sent an email to the reservation in Bangkok and Brussels and hope that this will now be resolved. Meanwhile, we are still stuck in New Zealand. We have absolutely no prospect of a return to Belgium.

    Hi Koen,
I hope so for you, but if by that time the ticket goes to € 938,=, you will have to pay € 400,=.
I would go for the money back option.
    Succes

We have tickets to Amsterdam with singapore airlines.
After the flight has already been moved 2 times, we now have an open booking until May 31 next year.
So if we want to fly, just send us an email
    Won't be anything this year

I have booked a flight with EVA (bkk–ams) for next May 26 via budget-air
received a message from EVA that the flight has been cancelled.
but I still have no clarity how or in what way I can get a refund or just book a new ticket. I was curious if others have experiences with EVA how they arrange this?

    • Cornelis says up

If all goes well, budget-air can tell you that. EVA will refer you to that intermediary.

Nothing but praise for Thai here too. When I wanted to go home early in March, that was no problem at all. They were not (or difficult) to reach by telephone. But when I went to the office in Chiang Mai, I was helped quickly and I was able to rebook for free.

  12. Jipi Maung says up

Repayment is mandatory according to EU directive 261/2004.

    • Cornelis says up

Under conditions, of course. Joep, for example, says above that he bought a ticket from EVA from Bangkok to Amsterdam and then that EU Regulation - not a Directive - does not apply.

      • yup says up

I am convinced that that is the case. EVA refers me back to budget-air and I emailed them.
Of course they are not available by phone. But hey, there's still time.
I was just wondering if there were any more EVA customers here.
