Arrived in Bangkok last night. After reading a few things on Thailandblog about exchanging money at Superrich in the basement of Suvarnabhumi, we went there to have a look.

There were long queues at both Superrich (orange) and Superrich Thailand (green), but to our surprise no one at Happy Rich (pink). While all three offered the same rate of 37 Thb for € 50 notes. In the arrivals hall, 34.7 Thb! offered. So it's worth walking down for a while.

This morning in the city (Banglamphu) also checked at various exchange offices. Here the price is between 36.94 and 37.05, so not much difference with the price of Superrich last night.

Greetings,

José

Humans are herd animals. 'It's busy so it will be good there', even if a few meters away there is an operator with an equally good or better offer. Or stand at a batch of doors, entire herds go through the same door like ants, the door a meter next to it unused.

That and the name recognition of 'Super rich', even on this blog I regularly read posts from people who don't seem to know that there is not 1 single company with that name but at least 4. Or that the few competitors (sia exchange, linda , vasu, …) sometimes, slightly, offer better rates.

But do dive into the basement, take a look around where it is best to go, then easily on the Airport Link towards the city.

the rates at the money changers “in the basement” at the airport do not differ much and apparently not much with the rates at the money exchange offices in the city. But when you arrive at the airport you pass a lot of exchange offices of the Thai banks on the way out. If you don't know better, if you want to change money, you will change there and then you will be very expensive.!
The money exchange offices of the banks at the airport charge a much lower rate than those of these banks in the city.!

Thank you Jose. Last year I exchanged in the arrivals hall at a very bad rate indeed because I didn't want to make a trip to the basement with all my luggage while a taxi was waiting for me. So I will no longer do that exchange in the arrivals hall this year. So now I think just exchange at a bank in Hua Hin itself if the difference is so small.

In Hua Hin there is also a currency exchange office in Market Village; main entrance down the stairs and immediately right is ie

Indeed, so it is with many. The TAXI is waiting and it wants to leave. He has no message about your worse exchange rate. He thinks if only I get my prize. Or if it is a Hotel shuttle service if I can drop the customer off at our place then it is good for me.
So the message is, with this knowledge, make an appointment with your collection service just a little later.
And in your case, goes to HuaHin. Then you can certainly change there. Only do that at a local exchanger. The big banks are also giving a worse rate there. The “private” exchangers give a clearly better rate than the big bank names.

Just heard they are all related. All children put on something with the familiar name to get a quick start.

There is also an SR orange in the arrival Phyathai of the ARL - the same rate as at the airport. SR-orange now has many exchange offices in BTS stations, tourist centers and shopping centres. It is especially loved by the Chinese and other ASEANS - because they get MUCH better rates and often have much less customer-oriented banks at home - or don't want to show their savings. So you should not have looked at the € rate but that of CNY or PHP to see what the difference is. A matter of thinking through when you see aseans…..
The HEAD offices of the 3 SR branches are huddled together next to the Bigc Rajdamri (orange, green and white/blue) and the DAYRates are often a bit better there - only during office hours - from 17/18 p.m. they also go a little down. If snooping around BgLamPhu wasn't until the day after - that can already make a difference. BUT-think it through-most people need some cash THB for ARL or taxi, don't they?

The price has risen sharply in the last 24 hours and the price this morning is different from yesterday evening.

Comparisons like this don't work. If you go to a normal bank in 2 weeks you might also get 36.95 baht for one euro.

On Suvarnabhumi it often seems that there is herd behaviour. I have often experienced that there was hardly anyone at Superrich Thailand, but there were long queues at Superrich 1965, while it really offered a slightly lower price.

  7. PEER says up

I always check the rate there before we take the Airportlink to Bangkok.
But at “VASU” at the bottom of the Nana skytrain station, the exchange rate is always more favourable, and we remain Dutch, don't we!

  8. Tom says up

To the left of superrich is an exchange office of a normal bank. There was no one there while there was a long queue at the neighbor. All three offices in that corner have the same course. So just grab the shortest row

  9. tom bang says up

Read more stories like this here, about the course and where it is best and where you should be at the airport.
Often those reactions come from people who actually more or less indicate that they come to Thailand more often, that is also the case with me and that is why I always take enough baht with me to the Netherlands so that I do not have to change the next time I arrive.
If you also have an account in Thailand, the exchange becomes a different story, because with an account with transferwise you do not have to carry money around, but you transfer it ideally to your transferwise account, for example, where you can transfer it to your own account. time to Thai baht, which you then transfer to your Thai bank.
You can also use the debit card from transfewise at the ATM, but then they charge 220 baht, I believe, and that is more than transferring it to your Thai account where you do not pay for withdrawal from the ATM.

    • singtoo says up

Indeed, “exchanging” money through Transfer Wise is, as far as I know, the best money exchange option out there.
Although a tourist obviously does not have a Thai bank account and cannot open an account there.
But even if you don't have an account in Thailand, you may have a friend or anyone you trust. And then you can still use the services of TransferWise.
A first, up to Euro 500, free transfer via the link below.

Superrich is rather overrated in my opinion, ok it's good to have a few baht in your pocket when you leave the airport, but in the cities you get about the same rate at exchange offices, I always change at the yellow TT and the same as superrich, which is not in Pattaya anyway, my wife called it, and explanation was, only in airport and Korat.

    • singtoo says up

SR is indeed a Bangkok based company.
See the list of all their branches here,
      http://www.superrich1965.com/en_branch.html

But of course there are more companies working in the exchange business.

    Sawasdee khrap,

I have to repeat it again that you can get the best exchange rate at VASU exchange on Sukhumvit road on the corner of Soi 7 (diagonally across from Nana)! I've been going there for years! For a large amount, it still makes a difference with Superrich!
    Chokdee!
