Home » Reader Submission » Reader submission: Applying for new Thai passports in the Netherlands
On May 13, I went to the Thai Embassy in The Hague with my wife and children to apply for three new Thai passports, my wife and my two children.
The rules have not changed until now. Make an appointment first. Show a copy of the address in Thailand by appointment. Bring the old passports and the Dutch passport of the father.
Then take passport photos and electronic fingerprint. As a father, I had to sign a permission document for the two children. All this took 45 minutes.
The Thai passports will be delivered to your home in the Netherlands within a month by registered mail.

Just a question, we have 2 children of 17 and 20 years old, both in possession of a Dutch passport, we never applied for a Thai passport when they were born, is it possible to do this?
Dear Hugo,
You can simply arrange this at the Thai embassy in the Netherlands.
It is also wise if you have a residence in Thailand to register your children there.
If this is not the case, you can simply register your children.
Your wife knows how to walk these roads, take the birth certificate and your passports with you.
After this you can apply for the passports.
Yours faithfully,
Erwin
If the children have a Thai mother or Hugo the Thai nationality then it can be arranged.
If the children live in the Netherlands and it concerns certain convenience items, then only request a Thai ID card on occasion.
If the children want a Thai ID card, it can only be applied for in Thailand the first time.
Applying for a Thai passport is only possible if the children are registered in the Housebook (blue book).
Just got it from my wife.
Our son was born in Thailand, we immediately arranged a Thai and a Dutch passport in Thailand.
Last year we arranged a new (extension) passport in the temple in Musselkanaal, where representatives of the Thai embassy came for embassy matters.
Children do not have to be registered in the blue book, bring an international extract of birth certificate for which a Thai birth certificate is drawn up. With this we were able to apply for the passport at the Thai embassy in The Hague.
Thanks for the replies, no there is no real reason, they just like having Thai nationality too, and yes mom is Thai.
Please note that they can also be called up for military service.
Dear M,
This is not applicable given the question.
This is also described on the blog.
Yours faithfully,
Erwin
No they are daughters.
If you go to Thailand, apply for it. Once again I do not see the point of a passport as it is often easy to travel with a Dutch passport.
If you want an ID card for fun, you will have to fill in the paperwork and whether it is worth it to you.
The advantage of a Thai passport is that those who have it do NOT have to provide a visa if they want to stay in Thailand for a longer period of time.
Dear Johnny,
This does have its advantages, such as no visa, buying land, house and not
the whining we have.
Yours faithfully,
Erwin
True, this can also have advantages later on.
