My KLM return flight BKK-AMS was canceled and I was given a place on the same KLM flight a day later in the same class and even the same seat. That was neatly arranged.

I received the message 12 days before the day of the canceled flight.

About 10 years ago I had a disagreement with KLM about a delay. They did not want to give me €600, even though I was clearly entitled to it and I then had to get it through legal assistance with the known 25% costs for the assistance. I didn't think that was correct and I didn't fly KLM for a long time, but this time EVA was very expensive or full on the days I wanted to fly. KLM now also has premium economy and I really want to fly direct. So we tried again.

I am curious what exactly my rights are regarding compensation. There are probably people who are well aware of this or who have just had it at hand, because you hear it a lot lately. If I read carefully on informative websites, I am entitled to €600 in case of delay. But can I also claim other costs? Of course I have costs for an extra night's accommodation and meals.

How do I best approach this? I really don't need to get the most out of it, but I do want to get what I am entitled to and know that KLM will do its utmost to avoid that.

I understand the negative sentiment of many with KLM, but I prefer no comments along the lines of “you should never fly KLM”. That's of no use to me now.

Thank you very much for the help.

For your rights, see the text of the relevant EU Regulation 261/04, in particular Articles 5, 7 and 9.

Hi Kees, same here. I submitted the request for compensation on the day of the cancellation via the KLM website. It's pretty easy. There you can indicate what your additional costs are for hotel, taxi, meals and refreshments. The website of Rechtloket.nl, but also on the website of the Consumers' Association, describes what you are entitled to.
Our flight of March 1 was canceled, and we were rebooked on the flight of February 29, 1 day earlier.

So you're flying today, 1 day earlier than planned. Therefore no extra costs for hotel, taxi, meals and refreshments. You now even save costs. It won't be the case that KLM will reduce the savings on your compensation because of the flight change, will it?

No, I have extra costs. I arrive a day early, I wasn't planning on sleeping under a bridge and biting on wood
Good to say that the return journey is (still) unchanged.

    Hi Kees
My direct KLM flight AMS-BKK for Monday March 4 has been cancelled.
KLM has informed me of this in writing and has also enclosed all information about my rights. Surely they will do that to everyone?! By the way, no bad word from me about KLM. They offered alternative flight on the same day via Emirates (Dubai stop) which I kindly thanked. Then rebooked on a direct flight 2 days later and the return flight was also adjusted. Both flights with free upgrade. I am silver at KLM, maybe that plays a role.

I'm diamond but it doesn't help anything
I flew KLM for 40 years, but since they gave my daughter 300 euros for cancellation in November and male passengers 600, which is very clearly discrimination.
They are even so contemptible there that this incident concerns cousins with the same last name, of course this will go viral this week

Hello, KLM has informed you in advance, as provided for in EU legislation, that information must also state what the rules are for compensation and assistance, and that message must also state which national institution checks whether the rules are followed.

for additional costs, hotel, meals, drinks, keep every proof of payment and then submit it

    success

    Hallo,

My direct KLM flight AMS-BKK for Monday March 4 has also been cancelled.
I was not informed about this by KLM, but I had to read this myself in my KLM. I have not received any information about my rights from KLM.
I called KLM and rebooked my trip to March 3 and also rebooked my return trip. KLM did not inform me of my rights by telephone.
I now have to take a hotel in Bangkok for a day to catch my domestic flight to Chiang Mai on March 4, I also have to return a day earlier (30 days) and leave my AirB&B 1 day earlier, which has all already been paid for and reserved.
I know that I can claim the costs of my hotel - food - taxi, but can someone also tell me what else I can claim and how.

Hi, KLM can and may cancel or change flights more than 14 days in advance without being entitled to compensation. This is an EU rule and valid for all companies from, to, in the EU.

Call legal assistance, but you must be able to prove what the mistake was, take photos when it is busy, etc. KLM is a reliable company that also speaks to you in Dutch, sometimes the fault of the airport, sometimes the fault of the airlines, and What if someone has a heart attack in the middle of the long line, then the ambulance has to come and can cause additional delays, but is this force majeure?

We received an email that we (4 people) were placed in seat 18 economy instead of premium comfort. With the announcement that the seats were so favorable that the price was equivalent. Quite a strange way of customer loyalty. Prices are completely different. Upgrade was not possible and we were obliged to fly 3 days earlier and only submit the claim to the KLM claim desk afterwards. Not exactly customer friendly. We just have to see if we will be reimbursed for these extra days.

Eric, if you don't have a hotel yet, I was close to Sirport, at the Suvarnabhumi ville airport hotel.
10 minutes from the airport, nice spacious room.
Cost me 2295 Bat incl. breakfast.
Shuttle bus service only 100 Bat.
I came from HUA HIN and went to BKK the day before departure.

If you do not agree with KLM's terms and conditions, you can always submit your complaint to:

I once won such a case through them!
