Looking at houses from readers (43)
Our “vacation” house is located about 50 km from Surin (and only a few km from Tunggular lake) in the countryside.
We had this three bedroom house built in 2015. Meanwhile, 2 bedrooms and 1 Buddha room for mother-in-law, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, spacious living area, terrace and hopefully one day my roof terrace will also be finished.
Have a small above-ground swimming pool built for the children and to cool off yourself. The house has an area of about 100 m² and the cost of the house was about 450.000 Baht.
We are there 4 weeks a year and my wife's mother, grandmother and sister live there permanently. Unfortunately, the old house that stood there could no longer be renovated, so it was decided to build a new house on that spot.
House is wonderfully quiet somewhere in the middle of no man's land with all my wife's family around it.
We enjoy it every holiday.

Dear reader, have you also had a house built in Thailand? Send a photo with some information and the costs to [email protected] and we post it.
Beautiful house, Maurice, we also built a few kms from the Tunggulare Lake.

Greetings,
Wim
Have a look where it is. Is it about Thung Kula Lake? If I look in the link then this is on the border of Roi Et and Surin. The river Phlapphla flows there.
Do you also live there Wim?
It's about 5 km from us.

I am now in Belgium, in a few months I will be retired and then I will stay there 3/4 of the year. We also have another house in Bang Phli, near BKK airport. I hope I can go back to the land of smiles soon, without too much quarantine.
That's how I would like it too. It's also nice what you do for the family
Dear Maurice,
Beautiful house, well done for this amount, certainly value for money.
I like the finish of the corner posts and the combination with dark
red finishes it off.
Your family should certainly be happy that they can use it.
I decided at the time not to do that and for the mother and brother
built his own house (is part of a story I have already told on the blog).
What I really like and actually didn't think about is that small swimming pool.
I'm going to think about this for a while.
Furthermore, a lot of living pleasure,
Erwin
Fortunately, the amount was also not too bad for me. Have been lucky enough that all of my wife's uncles work in construction and all had time to cooperate.
They did not charge much and knew exactly where the material could be bought at a good price.
No contractor involved, which also saved costs.
The swimming pool is really a godsend, about 2.50 meters by 2 meters and about 90cm deep. The water drain is downstairs and an Intex filter pump (35 euros via Aliexpress) is also connected to it to filter the water, works perfectly. This cost me about 10.000 bath to have made. I may have some photos of how it was made.
I am interested in the photos: [email protected]. Thanks in advance.
I would also like to receive drawings and photos how to build this pool
Greetings Pete

Dear, also welcome [email protected]
I especially like the solution for the swimming pool.
Perhaps an option for the (hopefully not too) distant future…
Nicely done Maurice. I mean the house itself, but also that you have thought about your wife's family. I would have liked to get an impression of what the inside looks like. And the garden is now greener too? I am also curious about your swimming pool. Do you have any details about that and how much did it cost? If so, email me ([email protected]). Within a year I want to move our chicken and duck enclosure at our house near the Cambodian border to our farm further away. Then I would have room for a swimming pool.
Oh yes, what material did you use on the underside of the walls?
Hi Rob
The bottom of the house is done with cement and water (no sand added). Then they "cracked" it with a broom (coconut tree broom). A time consuming job but a nice result.
Garden has become a bit greener, more vegetable garden. If we ever move there one day, I would like to turn it into a beautiful garden, but now it is more functional for the family to grow fruit and vegetables.
Swimming pool cost me about 10.000 bath. I will look up the pictures of its construction and put them on thailandblog this week (if they are allowed) See more people like that. Maybe also nice inspiration for others. It is not too expensive and wonderfully cooling on the hot Thai days.
Maurice
Well done Maurice!!
Nice holiday home and a nice gesture for the family there. May the appreciation be due to you.
What surprises me is that you can cool off in the small swimming pool. Perhaps in the Thai winter when it cools down a bit, but usually such a bath is provided with very lukewarm water, especially because it is placed in the sun. Maybe you throw ice cubes in it, but I'm curious how you keep it cool. My experience with small pools is significantly different from yours. However, this is of course ideal for the little ones among us and not enough can be done for that. Have fun with this house.
Dear Maurice,
Your house has already been featured on Thailandblog in 2018. I mentioned that I would like to know more about the construction of your swimming pool. You indicated that you would post a description and drawings on TB. To my knowledge that did not happen. I also did not receive anything via email. I'm still interested. Would you still like to send me the details via email ([email protected]). I would really appreciate it.
Will send pictures and explanation as soon as possible. Sorry for this.
That's nice Maurice. Thanks in advance.
