Looking at houses from readers (34)
Welcome to our house in Buriram. My girlfriend wanted a Thai-style house and I wanted a house with all Western comforts, I think we have achieved a good in-between.
After my girlfriend got the family land in her name, we started building with local construction workers and a cousin who was in charge together with my girlfriend. All in all, I think the house cost more than 3,5 million baht, especially because all the wood used is hardwood.
The most wonderful place in the house is the balcony because the wind can always flow through to the back of the house. At first we had a pump that pumped up groundwater, but this water was very calcareous and always a hassle with the pump. Since last year only switched to municipal water
A big problem are the pigeons that have also appropriated our house as a home base.

Dear reader, have you also had a house built in Thailand? Send a photo with some information and the costs to [email protected] and we post it.
Beautiful house.
I also like the traditional wooden building style.
You have made a gem of it.
To reduce the nuisance of the pigeons, you could place a pigeon cage somewhere in the garden where they are fed and can spend the night. because of this you lured them away from your house.
Jurgen beautiful house in classic style. Of course, the acquisition costs are a lot higher than with concrete and stone, but you then realize something special with its own natural character that fits in with the Thai style and tradition. Some of your photos are special because of the light in the living room. As an amateur photographer I could take dozens of pictures of your house, all of which are different and yet in one way or another would emphasize the characteristic of the house. I myself have a modest wooden house in the Netherlands, also tropical hardwood, which gives a special atmosphere to living, but also more work on maintenance. If you love your home and feel connected to it, that shouldn't be a problem.
With a very small sliver of envy and desire I read your story and looked at your photos, you are a privileged person, that you can spend the days in such a beautiful place. Many more beautiful years there.
Very atmospheric!
Beautiful house.
Good hardwood is expensive. But you don't get that look with concrete.
Thai style has something. One has also been built in our village. That cost two million. That was five years ago. Have fun living in Buriram.
For me personally the most beautiful house I have seen to date, a truly authentic one with super beautiful hardwood and the space and comfort of a European house. Just a few questions:: should you have something like this regularly treated against woodworm, etc. And despite the beautiful spacious house you have to sit on the toilet to brush your teeth ?? Can the door open at the toilet?? and then I miss the butt sprayer that is much coveted by Europeans. Lots of living pleasure in this beautiful house, but that will certainly work, even if that living pleasure is not only due to the architectural style or size of your house.
Woodworm is a problem, a lot of spraying has to be done, I think the house will be eaten in 100 years 🙂
in the same room (not shown in this photo) of the toilet is also the shower and a teeth brushing / washing area. The door can be opened, but I must admit that this cabinet is rarely used and that there are some cleaning products in it. Fortunately, every toilet in the house (so much nicer than paper) has a butt sprayer.
I agree with Henry's story.
This is second house hard keep house from the house look series.
I almost had the first prize awarded at the first house...
Must come back to that.
your house also radiates so much warmth, and with a perfect finish
I wonder if you will be surpassed.
Have fun living
WOW !!!!
What a beautiful, beautiful house and thank you for looking inside, what beautiful furniture, they really belong to the house, including the swing on the balcony.
Enjoy it
Thea
Dear Jurgen,
I am always amazed by looking at this house.
So beautiful. I've seen this with a good friend of mine who only has the front
(Louis) has made so.
We have once received invitations from a wedding in a hotel
overnight, which was also built almost entirely of hard wood.
It is a beautiful (cost) picture which indeed produces beautiful photos.
It is a joy to look at let alone live in.
I can't say at the moment that nothing is right (Sint maybe).
Hats off very nice, a lot of work to make this.
Termites aside, it's definitely worth it.
Thank you for these beautiful pictures and sharing them.
Yours faithfully,
Erwin
most beautiful so far
Dear Jurgen,
Very nice house and decor.
A lot of maintenance to keep the wood in good condition.
You mention the nuisance of pigeons. Pigeons are flying rats. Chase away, otherwise things will go from bad to worse.
Regards,
Lex
Indeed Khun Knoezel,
They are flying rats, can also transmit diseases just like rats. No droppings but flats on your car, motorcycle or head.
What a beautiful attractive house in Thai style and beautiful woodcarving details. The hinges on the doors are sometimes many 7 pieces on a door that must be a police hallmark ;-). and the door will not warp quickly.
It's always a shame that the pests also eat the beautiful hardwood and that a lot of spraying is required, because how bad is this poison for pets and small children?
Good luck and enjoy living in your home
What a beautiful house and beautiful furniture.
Enjoy it
A tip to keep pigeons away.
Hang an old CD on a nylon string of about 50 cm under the eaves and also in other places where the pigeons come. Due to the glitter of the rotating CD, the pigeons stay away. If they become somewhat dull due to the UV, replace them with another CD. It's worth trying.
Had problems with shitting pigeons in my wooden sala. Almost no faeces anymore. Pigeons keep their distance.
Wonderful
Just a windmill pendulum (approx. 250 Bth at azada) and no more birds…..
Superb atmospheric house. For me the most beautiful thing I've seen so far.
Were the hinges on offer? I should see a door with 7 pieces of hinges. 55555
But admittedly it is a beauty of a house.
The furniture (chairs) are also beautiful, I sometimes come across them and I find them really robust and beautiful.
