Reader Submission: Passed my Thai driver's license!

Tags: Successful, Thai driver's license
Yesterday I passed my Thai driver's license with the maximum score of 50 good. I thank the editors and fellow bloggers for the site with the multiple choice driving test questions in English.
My lesson consisted of 10 hours of driving including 3x multiple choice questions practice. The driving test took 7 hours, 2 hours of explanation, 4 hours of practicing exam questions and 1 hour of multiple choice exam. For these 17 hours I lost 6.500 baht at driving school Advance. The service here was top notch with free coffee, tea, water, ice cream and a hot meal on exam day.
I had also inquired in Bang Chak to exchange my Dutch driving license for a Thai driving licence. But in Bang Chak I had to submit the following documents: Certificate of Residence, doctor's letter, translation Dutch driver's license, letter NL embassy and I could only take the exam in December. To avoid all this hassle and the long waiting time, I chose to take the exam close to my house.
I understand that my driver's license is valid for 5 years instead of 2 years when exchanging in Bang Chak.
So now the next step, look at a new MG.

You will get responses that it can be much cheaper.
But you're right, for those 175 euros and less hassle.
And that cheaper option by arranging everything yourself also costs money and time.
I don't quite understand: you apparently have a Dutch driver's license, so you don't have to take an exam, do you? One hundred baht for a medical certificate, around 200 baht for a driver's license, 300 baht for a certificate of residence – that's all it cost me.
That's right, I "got" my Thai driver's license in the same way here in Chiang Rai, after the color test, reaction test and watching a video in the English language (40mins+/-).
After paying 6000 baht, I drove with a Smart Drive employee to the office in Udon Thani where the driver's licenses are issued. I had never taken a lesson before but only brought my passport and international driver's license. When I arrived at the office I had to sit somewhere. while that employee arranged everything. No exam or answering questions. At one point I was called and 2 passport photos were taken. Then I got a car license and a motorcycle license even though I have never been on a motorcycle. Afterwards it turned out that I had already paid too much with the 6000 baht.
If you buy Jos with your driver's license for 6000 baht, you have another road user who is actually not competent to drive here and certainly not on a motorcycle! if you've never ridden one of these before.
Hans.
Dear Hans,
I don't believe that Jos asked to get the motorcycle license.
He's just describing what happened to him.
Dear reader
6000 baht and then a driver's license for 5 years that might be more convenient.
Because of my visa I always only get a driver's license now for 2 years and before that only 1 year.
Where can or could this be done in Pattaya?
Happy day Peter Yai
Inquire at the driving school near Bangkok Hospital.
When you leave the BH DO NOT turn onto Sukhumvit Rd but turn right into the narrow street, across the narrow one
intersection on the right is this driving school.
2nd option.
From the highway 7 turn left onto the 36.
Shortly after is the International School of the Regents. (Large clearly recognizable building)
After this school is a narrow street, which leads to the Traffic Office for driving licenses and car inspections.
New driver's license 2 years (also for Thai) after renewal 5 years
Striking in the responses are the various options to obtain a Thai driving license!
Also applies to the immigration services with their rules or SVB extensions!
I also went to the exam office (in Bangkok) together with the driving school owner. Only did the eye test and reaction and then sat on a bench waiting. Took 2 pictures and Freekie was done. Was in 2012 and I thought it cost 5000 Baht then. My factory secretary had selected this driving school for me. She's great and basically takes care of everything for me. Work permit, residence permit, China visa, car insurance, tax, I don't have to go to the inspection station by car, she just let someone come from the station to the factory, etc. The only drawback is that I myself do not know how to do such things. But in this way she relieves me of a lot of "side issues"
It would be useful to go with her anyway to know how it works.
If she falls ill or goes to work elsewhere, you will still have to deal with it yourself.
I've been color blind all my life (76) and it's not a problem for me.
Got my Thai driver's license without any test based on my Dutch driver's license.
But yes that expires and so went for a new one.
Problem: color blind and with a lot of theater: a Thai driver's license was really not possible
Just wait then enter his office (my wife arranges that) and the same day a Thai driver's license until 2024
Whether or not you can convert a Dutch or Belgian driving license depends on the date on it. If it says 1968, then the driver's license cannot be converted automatically. If it says 1949, then yes. My (previously paper) driver's license clearly stated 1968. And so it cannot be converted.
Congratulations Arnolds, 50 !!
a super score!!!
I myself was already proud with 48 correct answers.
Maarrrrr I lost 205,- Bath for my driver's license plus 75 Bath for my health certificate.
Valid for 2 years and extended in January for 5 years.
With an international driver's license and the right visa
Can you just go to the department of transport. You can do the color test and the braking test for the 1st time. Watch the video and then it's done. Downside everything in thai on the forms. Please bring a health statement.
Like everyone else, you get a driver's license for 2 years. After 2 years, so on renewal the same game and you get 5 years.
Costs were around 500 baht.
Congrats Arnolds.
It is quite common for officials at the Department of Land Transport to be unfamiliar with the International Driving Permit and/or cannot read English and therefore require a legalized translation of the driving licence. I don't understand why they also want a letter from the embassy at the DLT of แขวงบางจาก (Kwaeng Bang Chak). And what should that letter contain?
You can read on the driving license until which date your driving license is valid (probably until your birthday).
