The bra party in Khon Kaen

When I first visited my Thai sister-in-law Ang in a poor little village an hour from Khon Kaen several years ago, I was the only farang, so half the village turned out to see me. Now they know that I come regularly.

I'm almost 1.80 m and not the slimmest. Day 2 the women rub my arms to feel my white skin. It's something, such a big woman. Quite an attraction.

Day 3 they touch my breasts and I don't like that. “What are they doing Ang?” I ask my sister-in-law. She tells me that the ladies like that my breasts are so high. I pull up my shirt and show my bra.

Oh is it that! They want that too! An hour away, in the city and now also closer to home in Kumphawapi, you can buy bras, but most ladies don't come there and don't have the money for it. Life in Isaan is very different from the touristic south. Here time has stood still longer.

Since then, every year I bring a stack of bras that I collect. Half a suitcase full. The larger sizes are especially popular, because there are quite a few heavier women. Diabetes is also rampant there, in one hand the insulin syringe, in the other the bag of chips and a bottle of cola.

And even though most ladies have small breasts, that bra should be spacious and especially not in the way (don't blame them). It's not so much about the right size, but about having one. Or two. They also like to be beautiful, just like us.

We now hold a “bra party” every year and have a lot of fun fitting together. Every year the ladies come back to greet me (and rub my white skin) and the first thing they do is pull up their blouses to show me they're still wearing last year's bra.

In the meantime it has become known in a neighboring village what I bring with me every year and the question arises from there: can I bring bras?

No problem, a call on Facebook and the full bags of bras will be delivered to my house.

I'm waiting for the day when I have to open my suitcase at customs and show the contents haha! Party at the airport!
