The Easter days in the Netherlands are special this year. It could be the middle of summer.

Yesterday I went jogging and for a moment I thought I was walking abroad. The thermometer got stuck at 27 degrees and that is exceptional for the end of April. The weather in the Netherlands seems to be quite upset. Snow in November and almost tropical in April. Can it get any crazier?

Holidays

The countdown has really begun now. Next Sunday I will leave Düsseldorf Airport for 23 days Thailand. The suitcase has been removed from the attic and is slowly being filled. A holiday is for many the highlight after a year of hard work. It's no different for me. The anticipation is just as much fun. I have already drawn up a nice 'to do' list. But at the top of my list is just going on vacation. That means: good food, going out, swimming, going to the beach and sleeping late.

It is not only special for me, but my Thai girlfriend is also in all states. After seven months of only every day telephone contact, it is very nice to be able to hug each other again.

Yet my holidays to Thailand are different than before, the time before Thailandblog existed. Now I keep asking myself with everything I see or hear, how I can share it with the visitors of the blog. In that respect, Thailand is an easy subject to write about because there is always something happening. Both in a positive and negative sense. And it will continue to be so with the upcoming elections.

“Get away from it all” is what you usually hear when someone is looking forward to a vacation. That is certainly the case when you are in Thailand. The holiday countries in Europe are starting to look more and more alike. How different is Asia. When you get off the plane in Bangkok, you immediately have the feeling that you have arrived in a completely different world. Almost everything is different in Thailand, which makes it so fun and interesting. And if you love photography like I do, Thailand is definitely paradise.

Thailand blog

For Thailandblog it will mean a break. Before I leave, I'll post one more post on the blog. Because editor Hans Bos is also leaving for the Netherlands soon, we will have to compromise. More about that in my last post next week just before I leave.

Easter

More than 1.2 million Dutch people went on holiday this weekend. Many have taken advantage of this period to combine Easter and the May holidays. The campsites and holiday parks are overcrowded.

Thailand is also popular with the Dutch during Easter. In the list of long-haul flights, Bangkok also appeared to be in the top 5, at number 3. That is good news for tourism in Thailand, which has had a hard time.

Easter Weekend Top 5 – 2011, measured by number sold flight tickets (source: airtickets.nl)

  1. London
  2. Barcelona
  3. New York and Bangkok
  4. Copenhagen
  5. Vienna

Well, as I said, the countdown has begun. It only remains for me to wish all readers of Thailandblog, also on behalf of Hans Bos, a happy Easter!
