Dear Martin,

In our Thai family there is a 43-year-old lady with a lump in the breast accompanied by pain in the breast. Now they have recommended her a mammogram at Bangkok Hospital Rayong. But she has no insurance. Now we would like to help a little financially.

Is it true that this price tag is +/- 30 baht?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

J.

Dear J,

In my practice, a mammography cost € 80, but that was 8 years ago now.

However, I am not concerned with prices in hospitals. Why don't you go to a state hospital? For example, take a look at this website: https://us-uk.bookimed.com/clinics/country=thailand/procedure=mammography/

With regards

Dr. Maarten

A mammography is an x-ray of the breast. And ask more than 800 euros for that? A few years ago I took a good acquaintance of mine to a clinic in Sukhothai because it happened very often in her family. Mother and aunt died from it and grandma also had it at that time. She was scared and I offered to have her photo taken because she couldn't afford it herself. Costs 27 euros.

The price of 30.000 Baht seems very high to me.
Had a mammogram done for my girlfriend at Bangkok Hospital in Pattaya last year.
    Cost: 5000 Baht.

every thai person is insured in their own place of residence it is free so don't let your family drop you off gr harrie

They recently changed that and you can register and be treated elsewhere, so you are no longer tied to where you are in the house book. And that was possible before, a friend and son were registered far away in another province, but could easily register for treatments at various hospitals.

If the person is a Thai then they are simply insured for this kind of thing. That people do not want to go to a state hospital is another story…

The price you mentioned is 10 times what is stated on various sites. Let yourself be well informed first and pay attention. This price smells like danger.

30.000 THB is a price for a non-Thailand patient, also in a state hospital

Not even a farang pays this and certainly not in a state hospital.
Seems like a strange story to me, given the height of the price.
Had an MRI scan two years ago at Chiangmai Sundok Hospital, when lying in a machine for an hour and a half was no fun.
But the cost of all this was then around 15000 baht.

Ferdinand, are you sure you're talking about a state hospital? Other posts here really indicate a lower amount. I don't believe your amount.

My wife had her mammography done at Bhumipol State Hospital a month ago.
She had to pay almost 6000 baht for this.

Henk has already indicated a multiple of what is indicated on the digital highway.
Prices will be between one hundred and two hundred and fifty dollars in 2022.
    Private hospital too.
Typo of this Lady or an ordinary rip-off.
If I were J. I would ask again what she gets for that +/- thirty thousand baht.

  11. william says up

Oops forgot or did she already include the removal of that lump, could of course also be the price difference.

Thank you Dr Maarten and blog readers for the responses. We have been in contact with this person again. This would be an estimate should any xray, biopsy, blood work, and perhaps nodule removal be required as well. Only mammography would be 4000 B.
