Dear Martin,

I've been using Rennies as an antacid for maybe 30 years. I have been living in Thailand for 16 years and friends have brought me Rennies from the Netherlands for me during all these years. Due to the corona situation, this supply line has been stopped.

I have been looking for a suitable alternative in the pharmacies in Thailand, but I have not been able to find anything other than several jelly-like antacids that did not really help sufficiently.

Can you advise me with which product, similar to Rennies, I can reduce my heartburn problem?

I have recently been diagnosed with PMR and use 5 to 7.5 mg Prednisone per day and it seems that this use has increased the stomach acid problem.

I am 81 years old, my blood pressure is 150/80, I weigh 77 kg, my height is 175 cm, I do not smoke and only sometimes have a glass of we with meals. Certainly not every day.

Thank you very much for your information.

Regards,

J.

Dear J,

I recommend that you give Omeprazole 20mg a try before breakfast.

If you also have problems at night, make sure that the head of the bed is slightly higher than the foot of the bed. You can then also take an extra Omeprazole half an hour before you go to sleep

Sincerely,

Dr. Maarten
