Dear Martin,

Answer from the doctor. He doesn't want to prescribe Durogesic anymore, and he won't get around to drawing up the medical file either. According to him, I should move to Taiwan or go for a consultation there.

After a few months of apologies, I already realized that he was not competent to draw up a medical report…

  1. is there another solution? Some say to file a complaint for prescribing morphine for +25 years without ever trying anything else.
  2. moving back to Belgium is a (unfortunate) option. Leave everything back here ☹️
  3. I think, from January 1, just stop taking Durogesic 100 and see what the consequences are. Although this is not recommended because of the side effects.

But there isn't much choice.

What are your thoughts?

Regards,

N.

Dear N,

Quitting opiates after 25 years is not that easy. To do this, you would have to go to a drug rehabilitation center in Belgium.

It is possible to suddenly stop, but there are major risks because you will not be up to date for a while. In such a period you can do the craziest things, which can, among other things, result in you coming into contact with the judiciary in Thailand, something I cannot recommend to anyone.

I think withdrawal is best. That means you go to Thailand a few months later with other painkillers.

Good luck,

Dr. Maarten
