Dear Martin,

Due to a condition I wear a Port a Cath now it must be flushed with Heparin every (1-1,5) month according to the Oncologist. Can this be done in a somewhat large hospital (for example Prachin Buri)?

In the Netherlands, only the Oncology department wants to puncture a Port a Cath.

Awaiting your response.

Dear J.

Any well-trained doctor can puncture a Port a Cath.

I did that regularly myself, so that the patient did not have to make the trip to the hospital. In NL, some doctors think that they can do something alone. The best pickers are anesthesiologists and their assistants.

In Prachin Buri that is undoubtedly possible. You could make a call. Don't be surprised if they use a regular needle. As long as sterility is guaranteed, nothing can go wrong.

Success.

Kind regards,

Martin Vasbinder
