Floods hit Phuket

The persistent heavy rains have led to flooding on the tourist island of Phuket, Thai news channel MCOT said.

Many roads on Phuket and also some in Patong are impassable. In some areas the water is one meter high.

A number of through roads have now been closed to traffic. The water in the Bang Yai channel has risen sharply. Local residents and shopkeepers in the Thalang Road business district have piled sandbags in front of their homes and offices for fear of renewed flooding caused by the high tide in the Bang Yai canal.

The Southwestern monsoon controls the weather over the Andaman Sea, SouthThailand and the Gulf of Thailand. Residents in the risk areas of Ranong, Phang-Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun should be vigilant for heavy rains and possible flooding.

A few million tourists a year visit Phuket and also Patong Beach. The photo is from Patong. Patong still has the same infrastructure as it did 20 years ago. Where the roads are good elsewhere in Phuket, you have plenty of problems in Patong. The local mayor has been from the same family for 20 years. This family owns the company PIsona which owns 80% of the Tuk Tuk. Yes, that much too expensive means of transport and if you are not careful, they will kick you into the hospital with 5 or 6 people. In addition, the infamous Hollywood nightclub where several foreigners have already lost their lives. How is it possible that there will never be another mayor. That's very easy a quarter of the voters work for this family and the other three quarters get 1000 per person if they vote for him. That is why Western tourists are increasingly staying away and Chinese, Russians, Arabs and Indian people are now coming. These people usually only stay for a short time and have little to spend. No wonder that only in Patong Beach 2500 overpriced condos are not lost on the streets.

So what happens in the Hollywood nightclub? Never heard of deaths there?
