Emirates, the airline that regularly offers cheap flights from Amsterdam to Bangkok, comes with a new interesting service. Passengers can lock a booking and complete payment later.

Emirates' Hold My Fare service gives you the option to hold your booking for up to 48 hours.

With 'Hold My Fare', the airline increases flexibility and allows passengers to determine travel plans at their own pace. Customers can finalize the details of their trip later with the knowledge that their chosen flight is locked and fares will not be affected. This can be useful if you see an Emirates offer but don't have your credit card to hand or because you're at work or on the road.

The special option to lock the reservation made can be selected on the payment page of emirates.com. Immediately after making the booking, passengers receive a confirmation email stating until when the booking is available. As soon as the customer chooses the Pay now option, the booking is finalized.

Can be useful in certain situations. Keep in mind that if you finally decide not to make the reservation final, costs will be charged. You will only see the amount of these costs if you use this 'hold my fare' service.

Can also be done with other airlines, including KLM, for a small fee.

There are still some conditions attached to it. It does not apply to all flights and to all destinations. It also does not apply to business class. There are costs involved if you do not effectuate the reservation. Costs may differ depending on which flight and destination. You MUST have a credit card (or other accepted payment method) available at the time of booking for the fee (in case you let the term expire).

Emirates is not the first and only airline to use a similar system. Low-cost airline Vueling, for example, also offers it.
