If you want to take a domestic flight in Thailand, you can choose from several budget airlines. Budget airlines in Thailand offer an affordable and efficient way to travel around the country.

These airlines are popular with tourists and local travelers alike due to their low fares and frequent connections between major cities and tourist destinations. Last year we flew to Kuala Lumpur with Air Asia. Lured by the low price, I decided to forego my benefits as an ex-Lufthansa employee and pay the full price. I didn't think the difference was big.
I can't remember the prices by heart, but what I do remember is that they absolutely do not match the bait prices they show. There are a lot of surcharges and for every little bit extra that you want, which is already included with the major airlines, you have to pay extra.
This year we flew to Penang and I flew with Thai Airways again, with which I only pay 1/3 or less than with Air Asia. That included everything: airport tax, surcharges, 2×30 kg of luggage, food and drinks on board… Anyway, that's my personal advantage.

We are going to kl. early this month. But if you live in chiang mai you have little choice. Via Bangkok is a kl. Connection and you are on the road much longer.

With a low-cost airline you only pay for the seat and hand luggage, everything else such as suitcase, drinks and food you have to pay extra. With Ryanair you can fly from Brussels to Barcelona for less than 50 euros. I don't know how they got away with it. But you have to take into account the disadvantages.

Air Asia pretty much has the market in Southeast Asia. We just got back from 5 weeks in Thailand, Cambodia, Flores and Bali.
When looking for a suitable flight to the destination places, they will offer cheap flights. In our holiday they changed our flights 3 times and cancelled 1. Even moved a flight from 09.00 to 17.30! What do you do for 1 whole day in between if you have a tour planned on another island that afternoon?
And a flight in February 2022 was cancelled, because of Corona I never got reimbursed again!
If it works out I would look at other companies to see if they have better conditions, maybe a little more expensive but no problems with hand luggage, which is 200 grams too heavy!
We regularly fly to Asia and often use low-cost carriers, but we also shop with competitors.

Flew with them today from Bangkok to Roi Et. They are the only ones flying to Roi Et, even three times a day.. Until a few years ago Nog Air and Thai Smile also flew to Roi Et.
Apparently people still choose the cheapest, even though the price difference was very small.
If you are lucky, you can fly for less than 1000 Baht.
Even now that they are the only ones.
Yes indeed, if you have a suitcase with you, you also have to pay for it, a few hundred Baht.
    .I think it's reasonable.
And don't forget, if you buy a ticket from KLM for 1000,- you also have to pay extra for your suitcase...disgraceful.
Nice with EVA Air..2x 23 kilos included.
